I rebel against my religious education in that I think these critters do have souls......I cannot look into the eyes of (at least) domesticated animals and NOT see through to their soul....
My little buddy Scrat went into severe distress tonight. I had just turned the lights out and jumped in bed. I had to make an emergency run to the Vet. Worse yet, I had to make the tough decision to have him euthanized. He was nearly fourteen years old.
R.I.P. Scrat, you were a good cat. Never made a mess, always greeted me when I got home. I’ll miss your soft fur and soft purr that always made me feel better no mater what. Playing “fetch” with rubber bands and collecting them in your food bowl when you were done playing. He loved belly rubs and always “talked” to me in a soft voice. So long Scrat, I will see you when I get there. Gone but not forgotten 12/4/2019🙏🏻
@RockyMountainBriar sorry to hear about Scrat. We have loved and lost 3 cats over the years. Went to the rescue last year and got two more. Would recommend it.
SO sorry to here of Scrats' loss. I have always had Kitty Cats (and Dogs) and loved them all. From experience I can tell you, go out and rescue at least 2 kitties as Scrat would want you to give the same love and companionship to another kitty or two just like you gave him. It does not fill the hole in your heart, but it brings love and attention backinto your life. Our "Old Man" had to be put down just over 3 years ago. We immediately went out and adopted a Momma cat and 3 kittens (of which we lost one last spring), and they have been an absolute God send to us. Give another kitty (or several) what you gace Scrat.
@RockyMountainBriar - Words, I hope, of comfort, from Hart Road Animal Hospital.....
<<For all of the times that you have stooped and touched my head, fed me my favorite treat and returned the love that I so unconditionally gave to you. For the care that you gave to me so unselfishly.
For all of these things I am grateful and thankful.
I ask that you not grieve for the loss, but rejoice in the fact that we lived, loved and touched each others lives. My life was fuller because you were there, not as a master/owner, but as my FRIEND.
Today I am as I was in my youth. The grass is always green, butterflies flit among the flowers and the Sun shines gently down upon all of God’s creatures. I can run, jump, play and do all of the things that I did in my youth. There is no sickness, no pain and no regrets.>>
@RockyMountainBriar I too offer my condolences. I think losing a pet is as close as you can get to losing a child, especially after 14 years. It's been 9 years since I had to have my little dog (TinkerBelle) of 13 years euthanized, and I still keep a framed picture of her on my desk that doesn't go a day without being gazed upon with memories... I am so sorry for your loss...🙏
Thank you all for your thoughts and condolences, they are much appreciated.
When I had to have my dog Kenai euthanized a few years ago (she was 14-15) it was tough. I knew when Scrats time came it would be much tougher, and it is. I am glad I was there with him at the end and able to get him to the vet to ease his pain, he did not die alone.
I do plan on getting another kitten, the house would feel empty otherwise.
RockyMountainBriar Sorry for your loss of fur baby. I had to put my baby down just over 2 months ago, it seems to get harder the older we get to let them go.
I found my new little buddy. A friend of a friend had a few too many. They were headed for the animal shelter. Alas, I only need one. Hopefully his remaining brother finds a good forever home too. This is Felix (not my choice of name, but the little girl who had him), he is about 4 months old.
Don’t worry, I was told they have 5 or 6 more for her to love. I was still sad for the little girl, but thanked her for letting me have him (actually her mom insisted they did not need another cat). Felix is a good name though, I will not change it, and he already knows his name (+). Had he not had a name, I would have called him Weasel Ball....he plays like a “Weasel Ball” cat toy like the ones they sell at “Cracker Barrel”. I wonder if they had one for their cats and he learned from it🤔 He was “helping” me at work today too. He looks kinda like Scrat, not my intention, but he was free and he is quite the character already. So far he is much more affectionate than Scrat, but a lot more “talkative”.
Here are my two fuzzy buddies. They're both nearing 15 years old. The dog, Chloe, definitely acts like a senior dog, while Tofu the cat still has a spring in his step. Chloe is blind, so I have to help her out a lot, but she's a good dog.
This picture was taken on the way to my family Christmas party on Sunday. Needless to say, she was the life of the party.
@Corey562 That pup looks just like one we had as kids....his name was “Trucker”. Not sure if he was named that because the guy my dad got him from was a trucker....OR that is what he did if he was loose and no one was watching....he started “truck’in’ around the neighborhood.
@RockyMountainBriar this little guy is full of energy on most occasion but when he hits the shop he just chills he has a couch but insists on lying on a towel in the floor beside me.

Thank you for your condolences, and I agree 100% about it getting harder to let a furry pal go the older I get 😭😭😭
