From what I read buyers of tobacco products must be 21 years or older. The law was passed on 12/20/2019 banning the sale of tobacco products to anyone under 21. And as a result internet sales were in the cross-hairs as there is no way to be assured the age during an on-line transaction.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around what 'age' the Government actually deems to be an adult?
A child can be legally emancipated at 16 ... 14 in California. Meaning they are legally responsible for buying a home, car, paying their bills, providing for themselves, suing and getting sued - and pretty much what most adults can do. I'm sure there is small print in the contract that can get a bit more complicated.
Kids can obtain a marriage license between the age of 18 - 16.
Buy alcohol from a grocery store at 18. Buy a rifle or shot gun at 18. But a handgun at 21. Buy Pot at 21 ... or course some States like California the age is dropped to 18. How much you want to bet California will allow them to buy pot at 18 but still maintain a strict age 21 on tobacco products.
Most car rentals won't rent to anyone under 25 ... but some will at age 21 provided you're willing to fork out extra cash.
You can get drafted at 18 and die for your country if and when World War III looms it's pretty head. But don't you dare sell pipe tobacco to someone under the age of 21.
Yet when it comes to health insurance your son or daughter is still considered a child at 26 and can still be covered under your policy.
And here's a real shocker - I just discovered in Washington State there is a law that a girl at any age can get birth control pills or an abortion without the consent of her parent. Now that's a decision even difficult for an adult to make. Yet somehow age doesn't seem to matter. I guess they figure tobacco is more dangerous than a medical procedure. So the Government doesn't mind you getting a medical procedure behind your parent's back ... just don't smoke.
