I'll have to get by there PappyJoe, see what I can find to store my pipes in. I have the little wooden Pipe Rack, it would fit about a dozen cookie cutter pipes, and maybe 4 of my freehands, and that's on the top shelf, because their all to lengthy to store on the bottom shelf. So I just need to figure out whether I should hang one on the wall (being how heavy it is first) or if it should be kept on a coffee table.
Well, SWMBO saw my pipe rack project and told me I needed to make the stem rest fancier to match the base. So I used my little router attachment on my variable speed Dremel and made a new one. Here is the original and the "fancier " one. It may not show up very good now, but the staining process should bring out the routing when completed...
This past weekend I followed up on a Craigslist ad, and made a 24-mile round trip to collect (FOR FREE!!) what appears to be a china cabinet hutch top part. The glass in the doors is intact, just need to replace the glass center-strips of the two upper shelves, and the light fixture inside the top.
Then comes the adaptation and installation of home-made (Hopefully it won't take this procrastinator tooooooo loooong to begin the project.) pipe-holding sub-shelves, and to find a base to set the thing on.
Last year for Christmas, my wife assured me she was getting me a pipe cabinet made. I just needed to help her finalize the plans. As plans often do, this project was delayed, awaiting a basement remodel project (the cabinet would hang on one of the newly sheet rocked walls). The project is nearly finished and the new 48 pipe cabinet is on the wall. Three of the four shelves are set at 6" and the bottom shelf is at 8". She also wanted to get rid of our old entertainment center that I'd repurposed most of it as my tobacco cellar and suggested the bookshelf/barn door unit in the pictures below. I have ample storage and the barn doors hide it away, so she is happy. It was a bear to put together, but it all worked out.
Wow, what a setup, absolutely gorgeous just like our find @KA9FFJ with his setup......I feel so inadequate. I love the barndoor hanging hardware, what a absolutely GREAT gift.
I now have the pieces stained and sanded I'll do a light polishing, cut out the pads for the base and glue it all together. Final pics should come by end of day...
Well, I finally got around to sanding and staining the above shelving I bought at Goodwill. I also made, sanded and stained the rest needed to turn it into a rack... Now allowing it to dry before polyurethane, cutting out the felt inserts, and reassembling back together... (The dowel rods will need one more coat of stain). MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
Don't know about you guys, but we're locked down here in Illinois. So what's a guy to do? Well how about finding some scrap lumber and build a pipe rack. I roughed out this rack today. Needs sanding, staining and the felt inserts. But here it is so far...
I screwed up. I made the stem holders on the top part of the rack too close to the opposite side. In other words, you rack the pipes and the stems collide. Had to make a second one where they'refarther apart...
Well I've sanded and stained. Maybe put some poly on it and call it a day. This was my 1st 2sided rack and it will be my last. Not that it was that hard to make but, IMHO, I would rather have a single sided rack that displays all pipes equally. Anyway, I'll show you the final (for what it's worth) when completed... Just did my 1st coat of poly...
While waiting in between sanding and polycoats for the pipe rack I'm working on, I decided to make another rack but couldn't find a bigger piece of wood for a base. What to do? Well, I came up with this idea. Here's the rough cut start...

I would welcome the company and conversation.....and I would provide all tobacco.....if you could find a tobacco you liked🤔
Same here...except liver and latakia😖

Stripped the varnish, now doing some preliminary drilling...
