Thoreau said "Wood warms twice" once in the cutting and once in the burning. The pattern of grain is intriguing to me. Like the different grain patterns on the scrap piece of five quarter that I carved out to make a pipe holder.
Weii I found this last bit if useful scrap in the bottom of my bin and decided to make one last rack. It worked out that this one will be a 7 pipe rack. The wife has some extra red felt in her craft room, so I think I'll use the red on this one...
Thanks @Kmhartle I have to admit, I double stained this one. First medium brown, then after heavy sanding, an off yellow. Then one last high grit sanding, then waxed and buffed... Whatever doesn't sell at the St. Louis Pipe show, I'm ok with taking it back home.
@KA9FFJ, how far apart are you spacing those cutouts? Looks like about 4 inches. I need to make a couple of shelves before my "project" is finished. Here are a couple of preliminary photos:
Right now I have my pipes on pipe racks that don’t quite fit the pipes. My wife wants to get a new dresser for the bedroom. I plan to refurb the old dresser with a nice dark cherry stain.
The plan is to store all the tobacco in the bottom drawers, and the pipes will be in the top drawers set in a customer foam board to contour each individual pipe. If there is a drawer left, then will store pipe cleaners, filters(I do use them due to me being a wet smoker), and other pipe tools.
I'm toying with the idea of buying a CD/DVD media cabinet and converting it into pipe and tobacco cabinet. I'm thinking pipe stands like @KA9FFJ builds on the top several shelves and tobacco storage on the bottom shelves. It's large enough to accommodate quite a bit and narrow enough to be unobtrusive in the living room.
Well I needed a pipe rack that would fit in an allotted space where I store the rest of my pipes, so I made one. This time I used black felt. Fits perfect under my cabinet for my "work" pipes...
Well, as you can see from the 2nd pic, the rack I made gives me a perfect fit under my cabinet. Problem solved... Note: I am not superstitious, therefore I had no problem making a 13 pipe rack in order to make the length I needed...
@Kmhartle - I went to an At Home store with my wife last year and they had CD/DVD cabinets that were supposed to be London Telephone Booths, so I bought one to display my high end pipes and some tobacco. Since then they came out with the Police Call Boxes that look like the one Doctor Who uses. I just don't have the space for it.
