Rains are coming in (again) tomorrow afternoon/evening, so I mowed and trimmed today. Enjoying my 2nd bowl of Frankenblend. First one in an old Grabow, this one in my blue Frankenpipe...
Smoking some F&K “Bat With A Hat” in a Pete Y2003 POY (9mm) this evening. I just acquired the pipe today and spiffed it up. It was barely smoked and pretty clean. I’m smoking it without a filter in place. When I first tried this tobacco years ago, I was not impressed. It tasted too similar to RLP-6 with some BCA added? and was more expensive. Today, after it’s been in a jar for 5+ years, and more smoking under my belt, it has a very interesting addition of “something” that I have yet to “nail down”? Smooth burning, no bite, tasty👍🏻. I retro-haled a few times without so much as a tingle. I could retro-hale this tobacco on every puff, if I desired to. I might have to buy some more.
Just got back from a 4 day golf trip. Before mowing the yard, I'm doing some Lane BCA in repaired, reworked and restemmed meer... @RockyMountainBriar I love that Pete XLO2! Make sure it's on my list...
The sad truth is I haven't had a pipe since last Wednesday. I was loading the dishwasher and grabbed one of those gel pack detergent things to put in it. Unfortunately the what I grabbed was three of the pods fused together by moisture and one of them popped when i pulled them apart. The liquid squirted and MOSTLY hit my glasses. Some of it also hit my right eye and even though I immediately flushed it out with water, the damage was done. It "burned" my eye and made it very sensitive to light, very painful and I couldn't see out of it.
Fortunately, I was able to see my eye doctor the next day and he said there is no lasting damage and my vision should return to normal in a week or two. He give me eyedrops and sent me on my way. I haven't smoked a pipe because the idea of getting smoke in my eye and irritating it is painful. Vision has started returning and I can see enough to read and drive. Waiting until this afternoon before attempting a pipe though.
Smoking some C&D ‘Espresso” in a Pete “Great Explorers” “Scott” pipe after giving it the once-over refurb/cleaning this evening. This tobacco works great for me as a “break-in” tobacco.
I’m taking “Leaves of Athelas” for a spin tonight in an S.F. (?) Horn Stem with aluminum tenon, chubby billiard. The tobacco is the perfect moisture for packing straight from the bag. The bag note is slightly sweet, mmm. Smoking, it has a slight floral (not like roses or geraniums) note, much lighter. A little spicy, a little sour. It doesn’t have a heavy “smoke ring” smoke, just a light blue wisp. It does want to bite a little with chuffing…..slow down Johnny, slow down, ahh, that’s better🙂. That flash reflection off of the gold Mylar bag really set the pipe rim aglow. I guess I have a nice coat of carnauba wax on it👍🏻 P.S. It is taking a few relights to keep it burning.
Smoking some of my homegrown tobacco from 2016 in a Vector Rhodesian 855 Mini-Churchwarden. This was one of the first 5 or so new pipes I bought. It has always smoked hot and wet, like a $2 water pistol.😖 It does seem to be getting slightly better though.

After your experience, I don't know whether to pop the top on my can or not.
Smoking some ODF in my Savinelli prince shape while sipping some Red Oak brew

Frankenblend in a Frankenpipe...
Sunset Rum in another Frankenpipe...
Thanks for catching us up. I was wondering where you were.
Good looking pipe. I can't remember a day this spring that the wind wasn't blowing. It really gets on my nerves.
