Did 18 earlier today. On my 3rd shot to the green during a long par 5, the ball hit the pin about 3 feet up from the cup and it dropped straight in the hole for an eagle! I'd rather be lucky than good...😏 Got home, did a little yard work and now relaxing with some Sutliff Mark Twain in a @Corey562 artisan pipe...
The reason I love my Frankenpipes is because they are perfect for golf, garage, outside yardwork, etc. I don't have to worry if they get roughed up a little bit...
We forgot to take the group photo at the New Orleans Pipe Club meeting on April 25th. We had 13 pipe smokers in attendance including two new guys. Mayan Imports did another pipe raffle, selling the tickets for $10 apiece. One of the new members won the pipe - an Ascorti Christmas 2023 pipe made for the Tinderbox. It's the same pipe that I won a month ago.
The most interesting thing occurred before the meeting. I was sitting by the big picture window in the front of Mayan Imports when a guy riding a Harley pulled up. He was smoking his pipe as he was riding. He came in, bought 8 oz. of a bulk blend and left. Before getting on his Harley he reloaded his pipe and lit it.
I’m working my way through the last few bowls of some Boswells no bite delite. I love the berry cobbler and will likely order some to replace this aromatic and maybe get some northwoods while I’m at it.
@PappyJoe At least his pipe should stay lit. What was the pipe made from? Was is a “The Pipe” pyrolytic graphite bowled pipe. It seems a briar would turn into firewood rapidly fanned by roadway wind. I smoke a pipe in my Jeep with the doors off, and I have to watch its heat, even though the Kent Security billiard (my Jeep pipe) has a built in windcap.
@RockyMountainBriar He had a windscreen on his Harley. One of the guys said he was a retired motorcycle cop and mostly buys basket pipes to smoke while riding.
An after dinner respite, Savinelli New Art 207 loaded with some Gawith Hoggarth “Kendal Black Cherry” and my Ember loaded with some Montana Whiskey Co. Straight Bourbon…..I had a couple of mugs of hot tea earlier, why dirty another drinking vessel. It’s good to be the king😉
@RockyMountainBriar The only other time I've come across a pipe smoker who rode a motorcycle or pipes owned by someone who owned a motorcycle must have been about 10 years ago. A pipe shop in Baton Rouge had a display of four pipes where the back of the bowls were burned through. The shop owner said they were from the estate of a regular customer who would smoke his pipes while riding on the interstate. I think he said the pipes would last about two or three months until they burned through the back.
@Zouave1864 It has a nice look but it doesn't come close to passing a pipe cleaner, LOL. The Nonpareil line is generally considered to be between the Giubileo d'Oro and the Punto Pro lines in terms of grain quality, fit and finish. According to Savinelli, the Giubileo d'Oro line averages 1 piece of briar for every 1,000 pieces examined. The Nonpareil pipes are slightly below that in quality.
That is a bone ferrule on mine. The stem is a replacement I had made. When I found the pipe, it was just the stummel and the antique shop had it in a bag listed as "pipe parts". I paid $10 for it then spent $35 to have a stem made.
I loaded up my Mark Balkovec Billiard with some C&D “Blockade Runner” for this evening’s smoke. I always have an eye out for another Balkovec, I really love his style.

I have windscreens on my Harley’s too, but the wind still moves pretty good behind them. Maybe I ride faster😬

That is one beautiful pipe and is fit for a king.
Still like the lid...🙂

Very attractive pipe.
