So I finally sampled my first of the English blends from the Wilke purchase. I would note that all the English blends I received were very moist, too moist, why, I can only think of two reasons but I will not speculate here.
So this first blend is Wilke 524, it contains Black Cavendish, Latakia, Oriental/Turkish/Yenidje and Virginia, it has a 3.5 rating from Tobacco Reviews though I would rate it a solid 3.2.
I did not try this blend as shipped and waited till the moisture was reduced to a reasonable level. This is a full flavored blend with lots of body that is incredibly smooth and very well balanced, you can taste all the components
the different tobaccos poke out here and there but it is a bit monolithic the general flavor did not change much throughout the bowl. Not quite a Balkan but almost there, you do some get flavors reminiscent of the old Balkan Sobranie. which is surly from the Yenidj.
I liked it and will by more at some point, probably next Black Friday. Smoked in a Stanwell # 15
Flying the Falcon with some 4th Gen. “Peaty Kentucky”. I finally decided on a bowl to install on the stem?, base? frame? that I purchased several months ago. I have to say, I am not impressed with the machining on the aluminum as compared to a Kirsten. I used the little pipe cleaner ring “soaker-upper-thing-a-ma-bob” in the well/base? It got torched up when I was near the bottom of the bowl. I thought there was a strange taste in my, up until that point, enjoyable smoke🤔. Note to self, and a helpful hint, don’t smoke a falcon to the bottom😖. It left, and would leave quite a bit of dottle. Especially if not smoked down to where I stopped, and this particular bowl is not large at all, barely medium.
Yes, it’s a mustache cup. Ceramic mug on a glass table while it’s cold outside isn’t working for me. Switched to my travel cup today with some Autumn Evening in a Savinelli 606.
Smoking some C&D Wintertime Reserve “Alpine Lodge” gifted to me by a friend. Loaded it into my 2021 Peterson XMas Watson. I also received two more full tins in addition to the open tin (~minus a bowl), along with another tin of Mac Baren “Golden Brown Burley-London Blend” from 2019.
Taking a short break helping SWMBO getting the house ready for Christmas family/company. So short break means short pipe...😏 Doing some Lane RLP-6 in an Italian pocket pipe I acquired off Ebay really cheap...

That looks like an old shaving soap mug🙂

Yes, I gathered that:) It’s just looks similar to some shaving soap mugs🙂
