I agree to some extent, but I find it very difficult to tell an elderly person on a fixed income that they have to spend over $6,000 to replace their heat pump because R22 refrigerant has been banned for no real discernable reason.
Please, call your local HVAC company and ask them how much R22 they have in stock (because no contractor has any around here, I know that for fact), then call your next door elderly neighbor and explain to them exactly why they have to replace their heat pump for a "cause". Things like this are always nice and dandy when you don't have to worry about it yourself.
By the way, here is a direct quote from an email of a local HVAC contractor...I know him personally as well, but this is from his company's email blast for this fall:
"R22 supplies have been depleted and we are no longer able to refill R22 HVAC systems. The only 2 options are to replace your R22 unit or retrofit it to another refrigerant. Do not wait until summer to make this decision. New equipment shortages are creating delays that can last for weeks or even months. The best time to replace your AC is before it gets hot. To schedule your estimate...."
The cost of retrofitting, he tells me, is several thousand dollars...and it's not likely to be as efficient and may reduce the life of the unit.
I'm in the northeast where heat pumps and whole house AC are rare. I don't know where the companies I gave you links to are located but the fact is that R22 systems can be maintained. If no one is doing it in your area it may not be profitable enough a business to conduct.
Here is an opinion piece from Mother Jones--certainly a left-of-center magazine, and yes, I do read left-of-center material given my profession even though I'm so conservative I make Ronald Reagan look like a New Dealer.
I sometimes try to imagine what it would be like to wake up every morning having to embrace a "cause", be it "climate change", LGBTQIA+ rights, "social justice" (which I still don't really know what that means because taken literally, there is no such thing), Critical Race Theory, etc., etc., etc.
If every morning I had to wrap myself around a cause because that is what my "group" is doing, I would probably shoot myself, frankly. A lot of people would do themselves good by following the advice in this column if for nothing more than it comes from their own kind (i.e., Mother Jones).
Very interesting opinion piece written by a gay man; I post it because my old roommate from Chapel Hill (who now lives in Charlotte) is gay and has noticed exactly the same thing occurring.
Not at all, you just assumed since I'm a conservative that I have to 'prove' I'm open minded regarding someone's private sexuality. I have black friends too, even Hispanics, Chinese, Turkish, Iranian...yes, I know them all.
politics aside, Dem or Rep this made me chuckle. A customer came into the shop and had printed a ton of these stickers off and he was going around sticking them to gas pumps around town. 😂
While serving on active duty, I had two gay service members working for me. This was before “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was instituted. After I retired I was asked why I didn’t do something about it. My answer was “The “mission” always came first, they always did their job, they kept their private lives private.”
I’ve also always believed that the government has no business intruding in our private lives.
<<Five years after nominating a reality TV star with no prior political experiences besides writing checks to candidates to be president of the United States — and winning the White House with that candidate — Republicans heed their loudest voices on cable news and social media. It is a trend that has been building for years, when Rush Limbaugh became more influential than your median Republican senator, and is now the unmistakable reality.>> ~ W. JAMES ANTLE III

You can't produce new R22 equipment but you can use and maintain it according to socialclimatecontrol.com and goodmanmfg.com among others.

So basically, she has just come to the realization that everything Don Henley wrote about in "Dirty Laundry" is true.

People use the “some of my best friends” claim to show they are not prejudiced.
You seem always eager to think the worst of people. It must be fun to walk around angry at every perceived slight.
You do a fine job of making my points for me. Thank you.
