So, technically, that’s a Stanwell that I got for free. More importantly, that’s my view from my hotel room in Malta where I am on a business trip. This Pipe Life indeed!
Those are some excellent looking Nordings @ghostsofpompeii . While I own a Nording Freehand and I'm not looking for another one, I have to admit I'd have to think about those if I ran into them in the wild.
My Peterson I picked up at a antique store. It was in decent shape but needed a good salt/alcohol treatment, some waxing and buffing, and the stem took almost 30 pipe cleaners to get clean. Some magic eraser and olive oil got the stem looking like new again though. Finally got the time to do all that today and I’m pretty happy with the end result.
It's a wonder more pipe makers haven't considered a similar filtration system. One that doesn't affect the taste of the tobacco. In all the filters (other than the Nording Keystones) a filter that's been used for more than three smokes will greatly affect the taste of the tobacco. But no matter how dark the filter gets on the Carey pipe it doesn't change the flavor of the tobacco. I should know ... before discovering where I could purchase extra filters I used the same filter for several months. I originally purchased my Carey from an antique store and was under the impression it had been long discontinued and would be impossible to find the filters. So the pipe I bought was still in the original box, which contained about three spare filters - so I tried to make them last as long as possible.
@Scampi I live near St. Louis in Illinois, but all my relatives originate in and around Cadiz/Hopkinsville, KY. (Grandfather grew and sold tobacco... mostly Burley)...
Took a little vacation to Allegany state park. While I was there took the GBD Bulldog to the top of Stone Tower for a look around. This may be the most fancy Ash tray I have ever encountered.

Took three nights but I finally got the Carey restored! Stem isn’t quite as shiny as I’d like but it’s an excellent smoker!
There's a reason for that......
Krikey...the stein on the counter is a monster...I thought the one that I have was large.
