This morning it is coffee and Captain Black. My wife always reminisced about her dad smoking the Captain and how she loved the aroma. So I bought a sample pack to try out.
@Uhcoogsfan - Capt. Black is my favorite OTC blend. However, I never see it anymore in my neck of the woods. Walmart, CVS, grocery stores all stopped carrying pipe tobacco. 😔
@jfreedy, I can’t find Capt. Black locally here either. Found a sample pack with 5 of their blends at Pipes and Cigars. So far I like them. My only complaint is that it seems to burn quicker. There is a smoke shop nearby but they cater more to the cigar smokers and don’t have it.
S.E. Callahan's Straight Bourbon over ice with a splash of water. Smoking Germain's Century, an exceptional limited edition pipe tobacco. It is Cyprus Latakia, Dark Cavendish, Orientals and Virginia tobacco laced with rum and "wine cellared to age." I don't know what that last means (it's on the tin) but this is a surprisingly smooth smoke. To my palate, the Latakia and Dark Cavendish are tamed down by the Virginias. The tin note is what I would expect if I stuck my nose into an oak wine barrel.
Tennessee Hills Distillery in Jonesborough, Tennessee. It is considered a young Bourbon and is only aged for 2 years. Not smooth enough to drink straight but surprisingly good over ice with a splash of water or in a cocktail. 90 proof.
Oh, the tobacco was at my local B& M. I smoked it fresh out of the tin but it needs to dry some. I’ll do a full review after I smoke some more of it.
Committed heresy today: Mixed an aromatic melange of BCA, VBC, and RLP-6, two to one with some recently acquired FMC.
Closest to heaven I've had in a smoke.
Looks like what I'm looking for is not an FMC match, but an aromatic blend with a little Latakia. Now knowing that, the available candidates become clear: Lane HGL, Carey Revolution, Sutliff 504C and Sutliff Burma Road.
Sitting out back with a cup of Folgers instant and Captain Black classic. Even though it is nearly 80 degrees supper isn't finished without a cup of coffee and a smoke.
Good old A&W Rootbeer paired with the equally sweet blend Lane Limited "Wild Hare" in my Kaywoodie Redroot pipe. Probably should test my blood sugar after this.
I’ve been drinking lots of Greenthread (also called Navajo, Hopi or Indian tea weed) tea lately. Its earthy and really accentuates Virginia tobaccos. It’s growing everywhere right now in the Southwest.
