I am having a cup of my home roasted Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee, French pressed. I use the James Hoffmann method for the French Press Brew. It is the best method I have found to get a great cup of coffee from a French Press. I have to admit, I’m not sure the C&D “Jolly Old St. Nicholas” was a good pairing choice. I think I should have loaded the C&D “Nutcracker”, but I didn’t want to be disabled this early in the day.
Four 2-inch strips of orange rind, removed with a vegetable peeler
2 tablespoons sugar, or to taste
3/4 cup (4 jiggers) dark rum
3 cups freshly brewed strong coffee
Lightly sweetened whipped cream to taste
Garnish: freshly grated nutmeg
PREPARATION
In each of four 8-ounce mugs combine 2 of the cloves, 1 strip of the rind, 1 1/2 teaspoons of the sugar, and 3 tablespoons (1 jigger) of the rum and let the mixture stand for 5 minutes. Divide the coffee, heated if necessary, among the mugs and stir the drinks until the sugar is dissolved. Top each drink with a dollop of the whipped cream and sprinkle the whipped cream with the nutmeg.

My mom is getting “up there” in age and sometimes gets confused. My little sister gave her a Christmas advent calendar with chocolate candy in it before Halloween sometime. She just started in on them right away, seemingly not comprehending the XMas/Advent thing. When my sister “grilled”🙂 her, mom found some unwrapped macadamia nut chocolates and stuffed them back in the empty slots and taped them up. She has since started in on it again, but only ate one or two. She was a few days behind so my sister told her, yes, eat another each day up until Christmas, that’s what you are supposed to do. I think (sadly) she has forgotten too much to grasp the intent of the Advent Calendar😢
For brand, it is Peet’s. For blend, usually the French Roast, but have never had a blend from them that I did not enjoy. In fact, before Peet’s was available her in AZ, my mom and sister would send me monthly care packages from their local Peet’s in Menlo Park, CA.
