@Ruffinogold That was it! Middleton Cherry was the one I smoked that tasted like a combination of soap and old ladies bath powder! That was the blend that almost made me quit pipe smoking when I first started.
@KA9FFJ It’s a little sculpture? of a male loin’s head/face….at least that is what it looks like to me. I guess it could just as well be a crazy haired Yeti🤔
Smoking some C&D “Espresso” as the break-in bowl for my new Pete St. Patrick’s Day 2025 Lovat 53. 😖 It was drilled off center slightly. It was drilled a bit high above the chamber floor. The airway tapers down, away from the chamber…it would have been better at least with a slight upward slant. I removed the nasty bowl coating with warm water and a paper towel, like I always do, and found stain that was seriously coating the inside of the chamber. Some even came off with the warm water. The shank has been tapered from about half it’s length, probably to try and offset the wonky drilling. The airway in the stem was cut off center buy more than just a little. I re-drilled the pipe’s airway to try to adjust it down at the chamber and up at the shank…it’s better. I taper drilled the stem and chamfered the tenon, it should make it smoke better. Pretty sad that I have to tweak these things on nearly every Peterson I buy. You’d think I’d learn and buy Savinelli’s. I haven’t had to dick around with any of my new Savinelli’s.
Usually this tobacco smokes really well for me….in this, the stain is giving it a very acrid flavor. This may take some perseverance😖
Cool new “Celtic Shamrock” Sterling Band stamp though👍🏻. Oh, I don’t see any fills, and the grain is so-so.
Its midnight and Im having 7 seas red in a falcon . before my best friend passed recently , he gave me his pipes and this particular falcon was his favorite . Its quite exceptional . I miss him so much . Ill never have conversations on that level again , as I had with him . We had the best time smoking together . He truly loved Peter Stokkebye luxury Bullseye
Yeah , people complained about MCB biting . I got that one down . It had to be filled just right and not spazzed on . I'm a spazz smoker half the time , especially at work . BRM is good . I think Ive had pretty much every cherry blend there was and is and its an enjoyable one . CAO cherry bomb is good and I like to mix with that one a bit . Its pretty wild how theres different cherry flavorings out there . Ive been doing the 7 seas red for a time but its about to be extinct , sadly
Ive not tried Newminster black Cherry and should give that one a shot
@motie2 ... Oh man , Christmas Cookie would be near the top of my list if it only had more of the flavoring . I dont care for , what I call high aromatics , Im more of a medium in strength flavoring guy . To my jaded tastebuds , Christmas Cookie is a mild flavoring . Man , I wish he'd make a batch with heavier flavoring . Say like McClellands Holiday Spirit [ all bow and pray ] which was absolutely perfect to me
Smoking some McClelland’s “Royal Cajun Dark” in my first Dunhill, a Lovat 40 from 1927 (My father’s birth year). No, I didn’t buy it new🙂 To pair, some “Turkish” brewed coffee, ok three Turkish coffees in one mug. This should keep me awake, why I need to be awake, heck if I know? Most likely a stupid decision on my part.🤪☕️ Şerefe!
@RockyMountainBriar Almost bought one of those a while back. Now I wish I'd have pulled the trigger. As far as cobs go, I really like that sitting poker design... 👍🏻 By the way, for a minute you had me scared... I thought you were pairing it with HD motor oil...😬
Woke up this AM to 6°. Because of the brutal cold here for the last week, I decided to pass on pipe smoking. I chalked it up to getting old and becoming a wuss. Well I just couldn't take it anymore and decided to reverse my thinking. I figured I'm almost 77, so realistically speaking, how much longer do I have to enjoy this great pass time? So I'm out in the garage enjoying some C&D Autumn Evening in a modified meer while allowing my little space heater to keep me from shivering...
I stepped out this morning to go to work and thought it was pretty nice, no wind, a bit chilly, but a nice crisp clean morning. I’m not sure what was going on, because I was told it was around -20F/-30F (think I heard -28F) this morning. I was surprised it was that cold. My indoor/outdoor thermometer must be on the fritz, I think it said it was 7F….apparently I was fooled into thinking it was warmer, kinda like a placebo.🤔
Well fellas, for IPSD I have my own little Rocky Mountain Briars “Lovlin” loaded with one of my favorites this evening, Arango Cigar Co. 4th Generation Small Batch Peaty Kentucky. I don’t have much of this tobacco, so I save it for special occasions.
The New Orleans Pipe Club celebrated International Pipe Smoking Day at our meeting tonight. I bought tins of 4th Generation Freja & Loki and Fathers, Friends & Fire (Batch 003 Sweet Aromatic).
And, for the first time ever, I saw 2 tins of Barbados Plantation. Two other guys grabbed them off the shelf before I did, so I wasn't able to buy one.
Anyway, the write-up on Freja & Loki reads: "From a deep, rich foundation of dark Burley, Black Cavendish, and genuine St. James Perique ascend tangy, matured Old Belt Reds, zesty Canadian Brights, and small-leaf Katerini from Greece. Further elevated by notes of mulled wine and stone fruits, the result is a balanced mixture that holds both the light - and the dark - in perfect harmony."
I opened the tin and it reminded me of a McClelland blend with the aroma of vinegar and ketchup. It was a nice smoke though and it's manufactured by Cornell & Diehl. The Fathers, Friends & Fire is a limited edition 4th Generation aromatic made with burley, black cavendish and virginias. It is supposed to be topped with vanilla.
@RockyMountainBriar I remember that pipe and LOVE it! It's one of the pipes responsible for starting the establishment of "my list"... That stem is such a good pairing with that briar. 👍🏻
@PappyJoe Great looking group of guys. There are 2 pipe clubs in the St. Louis area: STL Pipe Club, and the Lewis & Clark Pipe Club. I'm a member, but unfortunately I can't make the meetings. I do get their literature, etc. Must be wonderful to sit around and enjoy a bowl(s) and good conversation. I'm happy for you...
Smoking an old Hilson Bolero with a mix of Smokers Pride Black Cavendish , about 2 or 3 parts to 1 part MacBaren Black Ambrosia . Ill tweak it this weekend but man its really really good . This is my last of the old Hilsons . Its a great older pipe and the two others I had , I broke . Im careful with this one . It smokes like a Gem

Christmas Cookie is a favorite of mine from Boswell.
MCB was my second pipe tobacco back in the mid 1960’s, but it bit like the proverbial barracuda. For a superior cherry I’d suggest Cult BRM.

Love that you have a pipe representing your Dad's birth year.
I'd have to find a 1913. Fat chance of that...
Great looking pipe!
I’d like to get one for my mom’s birth year too, 1941 “The Emergency Years”….good luck with that…at least with my budget anyway.
Almost bought one of those a while back. Now I wish I'd have pulled the trigger.

I’m drawn to sitting pokers/cherrywoods, they’re just plain handy, no need to figure out how to set them down, for the most part anyway.
About your temp...
🥴😵💫🙄😬🥶
