@PappyJoe I was eyeing those Rattray’s Yule pipes myself. Beautiful pipe. Those look to me like they could have been frazed by the same company that frazes Peterson stummels.
The mail/delivery services have gotten terrible, especially the USPS. I’ve had to talk to my route manager at the main post office a few times about a shoddy carrier. I can’t believe how freaking lazy some are, they can’t even get out of their little van to walk 10-15 paces to my doorstep. I have caught one on my RING camera tossing one of my packages from halfway down the driveway to the “area” of my porch😖. I had to chase down the FedEx van a few weeks ago. I had a package delivered to my work, it was a day we were allowed to leave early for New Year’s. I waited in our parking lot in my pickup at our front door for about 45 minutes. I saw the van pull up the street….they passed my building, stopped across the street and started poking on their little electronic device, then they took off down the street. Ahh, hell no….I started my truck and chased them down, luckily they turned into another business. I pulled up and rolled my window down and gave her and her co-worker my name. She said, oh yea, I recognized your pickup and realized you were after your package. I got my package, but dang, she was just going to mark it down as “business closed, unable to deliver”…what a crock.
I really like the smooth finish one I had but I like this one better now that I can hold it. The first stem was just sold green but this one has black swirls and goes perfectly with the finish. The best thing is, this pipe didn't require a break-in. I packed the bowl full and lit it and it just smoked all the way down. Same thing the next two times I smoked it.
This is my first experience with Rattray's and the finish problem on the smooth aside, I'm impressed with the smoking quality.
@PappyJoe My Rattray’s Chubby Jacky is a good smoker.👍🏻. There have been several Rattray’s pipes that have had the sirens call for me, but for the aforementioned pipe and a “Distillery” Sandblasted 106, I have resisted the temptation. The 106 is a great smoker by the way. Just before logging in here, I decided on the Rattray’s “Dark Fragrant” tobacco for this evening. I think I may have received this blend sample from you awhile back? Too many tobaccos, not enough memory. I have it smoldering in a Russell’s “Straight Grain” lovat.
I just pulled open the "ready" drawer on my desk where I keep the open tins of tobacco I am smoking and realized that I have gone through four tins of tobacco since mid-December.
So, I went through my inventory and decided to open a tin of something I haven't had in a while. I found a tin of Dunhill Aperitif I bought in 2018. I have it loaded in my 1926 Dunhill Bruyere Ao 151.

I have smoke very well. The prices are pretty comparable with Peterson pipes.
Oops, I also have two Rattray’s Goblin pipes I forgot to mention. They are both good smokers as well.

Doing some Creme Brulee in a bent meer.
