Once again, for newcomers, and for any aromatic smoker who hasn't tried it....
Our own @Ghostsofpompeii is always coming up with a new combination of tobacco blends. He's even into "stacking" (packing layers of different blends/flavors in one bowl).
In my humble opinion, this is his finest creation: Mrs. Hudson's 221B Bakery Street Blend. (Sherlock Holmes probably smoked a strong English blend. Naming a sweet aromatic after him would be inappropriate and ungentlemanly.) The name Mrs. Hudson’s is a reference to Sherlock Holmes' landlady. Mrs. Hudson’s is made from Sutliff bulk tobaccos, sold by the ounce, and blended together as follows:
Three parts (or 3 oz.) Sutliff Vanilla Custard Two parts (or 2 oz.) Sutliff Chocolate Mousse One part (or 1 oz.) Sutliff Crème Brulee
Some folks prefer to substitute one part (or 1 oz.) Sutliff Private Stock Molto Dolce (tin) for the very similar Creme Brûlée.
Historical note: The original recipe called for “....a pinch or two of Sutliff Irish Creme.” @Ghostsofpompeii says it could be omitted without harming the blend.
Mrs. Hudson's 221B Bakery Street Blend — easy to light and keep lit, great taste, smell, and room note; no bite, no goop, and no negative ghosting.
Smoking a blend named 790 Highland from the Pipe Rack in Akron , attended their monthly Pipe Talk , had a great time! Nice shop, had the pleasure of meeting two of our TPL members.@CorvetteJim, and @Iwoodcarve, great to meet you guys. Will definitely be going back!
@pipeman83 I was there as well. I was the gentleman there with my newly appointed groomsmen. I was asking them to be in the wedding party and I presented them with a cigar box to store their new pipes that I bought them today. In the cigar box was a zippo pipe lighter, pipe cleaners, and a pipe tool. Their very own starter kit. They all enjoyed themselves very much. I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet you or our other members that attended. We had dinner plans immediately following pipe talk.
@pipeman83 I did see you. Maybe at the next one we can formally meet. I had a lot of people with me so I didn’t have much time to mingle and show the newbies some stuff (packing their pipe, tamping, lighting, etc.) next time it’ll just be me and one or two others so I should be able to chat.
@ocpunk714 Hope all went well with your debut. For being such a young dude you sure have a lot of fires in the oven. Pretty ambitious fellow. I do well just talking myself into getting out of bed in the morning.
@ghostsofpompeii thank you brother. It went well. I’m already preparing for my next adventure which is my own event at a local record store. It’s really the last of its kind around here and I am very privileged because the owner seems to have a soft spot for local independent artists.
@Praider8, I don't whenI'll be able to make it back, I'm presiding over another Masonic body and we meet on the 4th. Tuesday of the month starting in September, maybe in October because there is 5th. Tuesday.
Today may be the first day in several when the weather will cooperate enough for me to have a smoke. For the past three days the weather has been brutally hot and humid. Couldn't go out and enjoy a good smoke. Proof positive that pipe smoking is not addictive like cigarettes. Pipe smoking can be enjoyed when it's convenient, and you might skip several days ... whereas cigarette smokers need a smoke every couple of hours - or in some cases minutes.
