@RandyB1966, glad you like it. The grain up close is awesome on it. I probably won't be smoking it for quite a while, so if you know any Hobbit fan that might like it, let me know...
I tried my hand at a couple of cob pipes. I ate the corn on the cob and thought it was a pretty big cob. Well I dried the two pieces and wow, they are pretty small. The difference between “eat’n” corn cobs and “Missouri Meerschaum” cobs. I proceeded anyway. I had two stems from a previous EBay lot purchase that I thought would be perfect. I bored the cobs and stuck in the stems. My first smoke in each before I plastered them worked ok, but the tall one was not drawing well. Humph, it worked ok with my hand wrapped around it though. Low and behold, I guess I drilled the bore slightly too large for this piece of cob and it was “Swiss cheesed” with holes through the walls...dang. I decided to plaster both to plug the holes. The small one sealed up, but the tall one still sucked air through the sides. Hmm, I wonder if I can coat them in beeswax just like a real meerschaum? Well, I did and tried another smoke in the tall one with some straight St. James Perique. It worked! I was worried about the beeswax leeching into the chamber, but it worked fine. It smoked so cool that the wax on the outside didn’t even get sticky. I’m sure the short one will work fine, as it seals well when I draw through it with my finger closing off the top. Two new pipes for me🙂. Happy Independence Day everyone🎉🇺🇸🎂
Here’s my contribution to this thread. Don’t laugh. Made it from a cob I ate the other night at dinner and a piece of bamboo growing in a graveyard near my house. I’ll try smoking it tomorrow.
@jfreedy I hope it doesn't suck air like @RockyMountainBriar Cobb. Please update us after your "maiden voyage"... By the way, those are cool cobs Rocky...
@RockyMountainBriar — I did use a dehydrator on the cob (for 2 days) and yes, the bamboo was already dried out. It’s a small pipe. Similar to a MM Shortstop.
I’ll let you all all know how it smokes once the wood glue connceting the stem dries. I looked online about wood glue. Says it’s nontoxic. I hope it’s fine to smoke.

Did you use a dehydrater on the cob, or just let it dry naturally? How about the bamboo, was it already dry?
