I have seen a few new lighters on the market and a couple old ones I didn't know about. One has a torch flame and you can adjust it to a soft flame, anyone have one or know someone that has one? Is it a good lighter for pipes? The other is the old zippo with the side hole, it is a pipe lighter, I am going to save up and get one in the next year or two.
At our house it's outdoor smoking only. I keep matches, a Linse butane lighter, and a Zippo in my pipe kit. I mostly reach for the Linse but the Zippo hits the mark there's a breeze. The matches are my backup.
There's a couple of past discussion folders covering this topic. Lots of good advice to be found therein. Popular solutions have included: Zippos Pipe Zippos Beattie Jet lighters soft flame butanes (e.g., butane inserts for Zippos, BIC's, Linse's, OldBoys, knockoffs, etc.) wooden matches hemp wicking cedar sticks (aka "spills," often used with cigars, but good for pipes, too)
