I enjoyed EITC Officer's Club. Like the tin said, it was like a rum custard dessert. As soon as I opened the tin, I thought I was looking at a goopey mess, but it smoked surprisingly cool and dry and tasted delicious.
I generally steer clear of aromatics but I just tried Captain Black Grape last night. To me it tastes like grape bubble gum both before it's and while smoking it and reminds me of playing softball and grabbing a wad of big league chew before taking the field . And despite me best efforts it didn't gurgle, get goopy, or give me tongue bite.
@wolf41035 if you like Captain Black, try Lane 1Q and Lane RLP-6. One is the bulk version of Captain Black White, the other is Captain Black Gold (but I can't remember which is which). They're basically the same as the Captains, but without as much propylene glycol (a preservative), making them less goopy in the bottom of your pipe, gives you less moisture in the smoke, and reduces any tongue burn/bite.
They're also quite inexpensive and available in bulk through pretty much any online retailer.
I also like East India Trading Company "Officer's Club". It's suppose to taste like a rum custard and I tend to agree. It's even better when mixed with Sutliff Vanilla Custard.
If you want a rum blend, Sutliff Private Stock Barbados Plantation is the answer.
One reviewer summed it up better than I ever could:
<< Blend - Burley/Virginia/Cavendish aromatic with a rum casing
Tin Note - Rum and vanilla out front with tobacco in the background. The smell is amazing.
Presentation - Coarse cut ribbon tobaccos, dark, with the cavendish dominating. It was slightly wet upon opening, but smoked great straight out of the tin.
Smoking - East to pack straight from the tin, lit easily, needed only one relight, didn't smoke wet, burned to a fine ash, with no goop. A truly outstanding heavily cased aromatic. Very pleasant room note according to civilian (non-smoking) bystanders.
Taste - A sweet rum flavor that never lessened for the whole bowl. A dark flavor from the Cavendish tobacco, mixed with real rum flavor which never became overpowering, accompanied by a hint of vanilla. A very sweet tobacco, but not overly so. The flavor beats any other aromatic I've smoked, rum flavored or not. Even when I puffed more than i should to maintain a cool bowl, it never burned hot, and didn't bite my tongue. It was smooth and creamy, and was very forgiving.>>
This is the only blend I've encountered that isn't improved by adding Sutliff Vanilla Custard.
@motie2 The more you describe Barbados Plantation the more it sounds like the ultimate rum blend in much the same way Molto Dolce is to sweet vanilla and caramel blends. I gotta get some.
I agree with your assessment and I await your review when you eventually try BP. I am so enamored of this blend that I want to turn others on to it, with messianic fervor.
I am still sticking with my Eileen's Dream and Ole Shenandoah Appalachian Berry for regular Aromatics and then a bunch of Christmas themed Aromatics especially Peterson's Christmas blends.
I see Wilke's #191 mentioned...I've just now become aware of this brand but haven't had a chance to try it. Has anyone else tried any of their blends? What is your opinion of them? I've heard some good things, would love to know what y'all think!
Some very interesting tobaccos: both aromatic and English. I stumbled across them looking for a blend called Evening Rum. They also appear to have two other rum blends.
@motie2 If you have the opportunity, you should check out C&D Repose. According to the label, it contains "burley, Turkish and bright Virginia drizzled with a splash of dark rum."
Here are a few additional aromatics I've really come to enjoy that I don't believe were mentioned ... Boswell Cupcake, Boswell Christmas Cookie, and Scotty's Trout Stream. I haven't been able to smoke as often as I'd like to since my wife's illness - but when I do I tend to grab one of these three blends.

Thanks for sharing the list - give me some new blends to try. I have smoked 5 of the 9. BCA is my favorite on the list, so far.
I think of it as training wheels for pipe smoking; the perfect pipe tobacco for newbies……
