Same here. When only a small percentage of confederates owned slaves, and given that it was an agrarian society in the south back then and slaves simply took jobs from sharecropers, some still believe they were fighting for slavery--in fact, they were fighting for freedom from what was to become the Federal Government.

Be very careful, you will blow holes in their narrative.

Amazing how there is so much riding on the election this November but nothing was done to fix election integrity. It's broken and has been broken for years. Yet, we are counting on voting to change our country! In addition, change our country with more politicians that have always created crisis to run on for a job. There is so much wrong with this government, we just need to start over. Everyone gets fired and we start over with real elections.

One of the best opinion pieces I've read in a long long time. I especially like the quote from Bill  Maher at the very end, although you need to read the entire thing...then finish with that quote.

    Gray-Haired Brigade

The typical U.S. household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35, according to an analysis of census data released Monday.  They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, geezers, and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are "Baby Boomers" getting ready to retire. Others have been retired for some time. We walk a little slower these days, and our eyes and hearing are not what they once were. We worked hard, raised our children, worshiped our God, and have grown old together.

Yes, we are the ones some refer to as being over the hill, and that is probably true. But before writing us off completely, there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration.

In school we studied English, history, math, and science, which enabled us to lead America into the technological age. Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party-lines, 25 cent gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes. For those of you who don't know what an icebox is, today they are electric and referred to as refrigerators. A few even remember when cars were started with a crank. Yes, we lived those days.

We are probably considered old fashioned and outdated by many. But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off. We won World War II, fought in Korea and Viet Nam. We can quote The Pledge of Allegiance and know where to place our hand while doing so. We wore the uniform of our country with pride and lost many friends on the battlefield.

We didn't fight for the Socialist States of America; we fought for the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave." We wore different uniforms but carried the same flag.  We know the words to the Star Spangled Banner, and America the Beautiful by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing. We have lived what many of you have only read in history books, and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America.

Yes, we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us. We have loved this country, fought for it, and died for it, and now we are going to save it. It is our country, and nobody is going to take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that is an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent.
It was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama, and now Biden, and the Democratic Congress. You fell for the "Hope and Change" which in reality was nothing but "Hype and Lies." You youngsters have tasted socialism and seen evil face to face and have found you don't like it after all. You make a lot of noise, but most are all too interested in their careers or "Climbing the Social Ladder" to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting. Many of those who fell for the "Great Lie" in 2008 and 2020 are now having buyer's remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn't have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the 'Kool-Aid.' Now you're paying the price and complaining about it; no jobs, lost mortgages, higher gasoline prices, higher taxes, inflation, shortages, and less freedom.
This is what you voted for, and this is what you got. We entrusted you with the Torch of Liberty, and you traded it for a paycheck and a fancy house.
Well, don't worry youngsters, the Grey-Haired Brigade is here, and in the mid-term 2022 and in 2024 elections we are going to take back our nation. We may drive a little slower than you would like, but we get where we're going, and in 2022 and 2024 we're going to the polls by the millions.
This land does not belong to the man in the White House nor to the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff, etc. It belongs to "We the People," and "We the People" plan to reclaim our land and our freedom. We hope this time you will do a better job of preserving it and passing it along to our grandchildren.
So, the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor

our country, and thank God for the old geezers of the "Gray-Haired Brigade."
Footnote: This is spot on. I am another Gray-Haired Geezer signing on. I will circulate this to other Gray-Haired Geezers all over this once great country.

Can you feel the ground shaking? It's not an earthquake, it is a STAMPEDE!

Liberals Will Freak Out When They Learn Who the Most Popular Politician in America Is

By Matt Margolis 10:05 AM on October 17, 2022

Recent polling by a mainstream polling outfit has revealed who the most popular American politician is, and the left won’t be happy about it for sure.

According to the poll, which was conducted by Harris Poll, HarrisX, and the Harvard University Center for American Political Studies (CAPS), Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) has the highest net popularity rating of any major American politician.

In the survey, participants were asked to indicate how they felt about prominent politicians in the United States, giving responses such as very favorable, favorable, unfavorable, extremely unfavorable, never heard of them, or no opinion — and DeSantis ranked the highest of all of them.

But that’s not all. When the politicians are ranked by the results, a pattern emerges:

    • Gov. Ron DeSantis (+6)
    • Former Vice President Mike Pence (+4),
    • Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.)  (+3)
    • Former President Donald Trump (0)
    • Sen. Bernie Sanders  (I-VT) (0)
    • Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) (0)
    • Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (-3)
    • President Joe Biden (-8)
    • Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) (-9)
    • V.P. Kamala Harris (-10)
    • Sen. Charles Schumer (-12)
    • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (-12)
    • Hillary Clinton (-13)
    • Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) (-15)
    • Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) (-22)
    • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (-22)

Not only are the only politicians with net positive ratings Republicans, but Republicans overall ranked higher than Democrats.

DeSantis has been under fire from Democrats because he’s a prospective GOP presidential candidate. Recently, DeSantis has made headlines for sending illegal aliens to the liberal-dominated Martha’s Vineyard, exposing the hypocrisy of so-called sanctuary cities. Democrats also tried to attack his response to Hurricane Ian, but those efforts fell flat.

I'm (vtgrad) personally a huge DeSantis fan and think that he has the greatest possible chance of being elected Pres if he runs--and yes, an even better chance than Trump (although of course I'd vote for Trump too). He's less abrasive, just as effective, knows how to turn topics back on people without them knowing it which is really fun to watch, and I think he would draw more independents than Trump would. I also spend a ton of time in Florida and the people down there love the guy, so he must be doing something right. Just my opinion of course.

I don't trust the system, or any government system for that matter.
    This doesn't mean I won't vote. I always vote.

There is just yo many people that absolutely hate Trump that would vote against him, just because.  I also think DeSantis would have a better chance.  I don’t think as many people despise him as much as Trump.

I personally think a DeSantis/Gabbard ticket would work very well. Tulsi Gabbard (the chick who just left the democratic party) is actually liked a lot in the deep South. Back when she was running for the dem nomination for pres, she had billboards from Columbia SC all the way down to Fernandina Beach FL and across to Mobile, AL and people I met on my travels through that area always liked what she had to say and was always wondering why in the world she was a democrat...plus, she's pretty hot looking.

I really think there's some backroom discussions going on between the DeSantis and Gabbard camp and that's why she left the party now instead of waiting until we get closer to the presidential election.

On the flip side, a DeSantis/Tim Scott ticket would be great too...democrat's heads would explode over that one...just think of all the racist "uncle tom" comments that would come from the left over that--that sort of talk always backfires on them and shows what racists they really are (i.e., a black man can't be a conservative unless they're stupid--i.e., blacks aren't allowed to think on their own about anything).

@vtgrad2003 that's funny, you mention a DeSantis/Gabbard run.  I was just saying that a Condoliza Rice-Gabbard ticket would be unstoppable.

The democrats certainly wouldn't have an answer to two women on the same ticket (one black) except for a gay man that takes maternity leave every year or two (i.e., Buttigieg).

I'm not sure Americans are ready for two women on the same ticket. Even my wife who is not the most femine-acting woman around (even ran her own horse breeding operation for a long time and a large farm), would be hesitant to vote for two women to run the country. She would if it meant keeping democrats out of office, but it wouldn't be her ideal situation...she would still want a man in there somewhere (i.e., real man, not some gender fluid non binary).

I like Condi a lot, always have. When she was Secretary of State, no one overseas gave her any shit and her rhetoric was always spot-on, and born in Birmingham, Alabama would hold a ton of creedence with black voters for sure. I don't think she would consider running in this environment though...she's a little too low key for that. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever heard her mentioned that she would go back into a federal position at all, elected or appointed, although I could be wrong. She's at Stanford now in a director position...she's probably making more than the President does.

There is zero voting integrity, this is decades old news. For this November, all you hear is "get out and vote" to change the horrible direction our country is headed, there is so much at risk.  How the living hell can some of these polls be "so close" or "it's a very tight race"?  Are you freaking kidding me?  Don't you see the propaganda in plain sight?!  That's like believing pudding brain got the most votes than any president in history, the asshole said that!  They also say we are not in a recession, the economy is great and people love what joe is doing.  Come on man!  Shits about to get real. Wake up!

As you all know by now, my profession is economics and I concentrate that in several fields, one of them called Develoment Economics. It's this concentration that forces me to stay apprised of world events, especially political events in other countries.

If anyone one wants a great example of how an entire developed country (as opposed to a developing country) can go from being relatively free to something akin to a dictatorship in only a couple of decades, Canada is a great example. Everytime some idiot tells me Trump was a "dictator" I point out that he voided more federal policies and handed those reins back to the states than any other president in it's history, yet they always praise countries like Canada. I'm always amazed how democrats conveniently twist definitions to fit their agenda.

Anyway, the only other real modern example of this occuring to a developed nation would be New Zealand, and it really only showed itself during Covid, but Trudeau was working on this well before Covid--amazing how Canada has changed, fundementally so, in just such a short time. This is exactly why democrats need to be kept in check--they simply don't understand the historical complexities and parallels involved with the vast majority of their policies; their agenda is to fundementally change the structure of America so it becomes more like countries such as Canada.

When one person can implement policies such as this with the stroke of a pen with no chance of it being litigated anywhere in the legal and/or political structure of the country--i.e., when your system of checks and balances is so weak that it's almost meaningless, then you have a dictatorship.

Justin Trudeau announces total freeze of handgun buying in Canada

Government vows to ‘do whatever it takes’ to enforce law.

    Updated: October 22, 2022 - 12:42pm

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday announced a nationwide freeze on handgun purchases, with the leader calling it the government’s “duty” to restrict the sales in order to combat gun violence there.

Trudeau’s office said in a press release on Friday that the government was imposing a “national freeze on the sale, purchase, and transfer of handguns” effective immediately.

“From now on, people cannot buy, sell, or transfer handguns within Canada, and they cannot bring newly acquired handguns into the country,” the prime minister’s office said.

“We will continue to do whatever it takes to keep guns out of our communities and build a safer country, for everyone,” the announcement declared.

The government said it would grant exceptions in some cases such as “high-performance sports shooting athletes and those who carry handguns as part of their lawful profession,” as well as “authorized businesses such as gunsmiths, the film industry, or museums.”
