Home now. Catheter is out. Wizzed once since arriving home. Things may be looking up. I thank you all (well, most of you, except for Mr. Cartwright, who's ad hominem attacks offend all folks "of good will towards men.") I wish him big dirty coal chunks in his stocking.
"Good things come to people who wait", it is about time that things start looking up for you. I am rather perplexed that with all the people praying on your behalf it took this long just to start looking up.
Just keep the faith and trust. I will continue to pray for, and keep you in my thoughts as I am sure a lot of guys here will do the same. And, I would like to thank your SWMBO for taking care of you for all of us on this site.
It's 7:08pm and I've wizzed 16 times since getting home around 9:30am. Not incontinence, but annoying.... running to the head every 20 minutes. Seems like I have to learn to use the original equipment all over again. Meantime: DEPENDS.
I am beholden to all (most) of you for your friendship and prayers. TPL and its members have kept me (if not sane, then at least) interested in life, throughout the many months since the day after Thanksgiving 2017 when all this crap started. Yes, I've lost a year of my life, but what life remains is so much richer and more interesting because of all (most) of you. Thank you from the proverbial bottom of my heart.
Thangs not going as wished for: Foley is out after four toturous weeks, but since last Friday morning's removal it's getting harder to wizz and never passing more than a tablespoon at night (not emptying bladder..... not good.)
Something tells me the Trials of Job (2018 Lite Edition) is not over.... ) Damn. Back to the new urologist Friday morning.....
Popped a 103 degree fever last night, but it went to normal a few hours later. WTF? Wizzing is painful after Foley removal, but it works most of the time......
Thanks for the updates @motie2. For good or bad, it helps us know where you are and we can be a little more specific with our prayers... We're lifting you up every day buddy...
@motie2 If the doctor happens to hit on the right antibiotic, did he give a time frame as to how long before positive signs should start showing themselves?
New. Doc hasn't received Tuesday's test results yet. When resullts come in I either finish the Keflex or get a different antibiotic.
Other than that, he said to come back in two months. Thus, I am left with difficult but manageable wizzing, getting up to wiz 9 times a night to think myself into wizzing, and a weeping hole in my belly where the SPC was. But at least I don't have fantasies of offing this urologist.
Moral: Time wounds all heels. And If you question the care you receive get a new doctor, and don't wait six months like I did.
@motie2 my wife was on Keppra which is along the same line of antibiotic as Keflex when she had what we call her "brain exploding incident". It gave her diarrhea as well. But the doctor told her to start taking probiotics and it would counter act the antibiotic and help even things out. Sure enough she started taking them and her diarrhea went away. Might be worth trying if you haven't already. Hope you feel better soon!
@motie2 Well at least you're a healing idiot vs where you were very recently! Being an idiot can be a good thing: low expectations from others; fewer responsibilities sympathy by the truckload. What's not to love?
If you follow baseball at all, surely you recall the "idiots" who won the World Series in 2004 for the first time in 86 years. Even idiots win every now and again.
I'm the idiot who got laid off right before Christmas this year and I'm just giddy over it! Well, not really.
@Michael308 -- Sounds like good advice. Wonder why the pharmacy or the doctor didn't mention it.
@jim102864 -- "low expectations from others" -- I like that. Unfortunately, as ill as I've been, folks have held no expectations of me. In passing, no, I have not followed baseball, or football or basketball, since the early 1950's. The only "sport" I follow (using the word sport very loosely) is Japanese pro-wrestling. (NJPW). See what I mean about the idiot reference?
@motie2 the pro/antibiotic thing isn't something they teach. Everyone in my office that get's an antibiotic is also given instructions to start a daily dose of Activia yogurt or Kefir (you can buy them as little shots) during their antibiotic therapy. Diarrhea and yeast infections are often harder to treat then the original infection. Hope the meds work and praying your system quickly responds.
Just back from my primary care doctor who is now sending me back to the urologist, because the suprapubic catheter hole hasn't healed in 4 months and it appears to have formed a fistula...... More surgery....
Urologist: "You're 72. Takes longer to heal. (Yeah, but four months?) I'd not rush into anything. There's a fistula, alright. Let's wait and see what happens. Come back in March."
So, I gots me a leaky belly hole, but other than that....."
In other words: NO SURGERY (for now.... ). Hosannah!

3 steps forward 1 step back........hang in there

Thanks for the concern......
I see him again on Friday.
Thank you kindly.

Yes, the antibiotic caused diarrhea showed up right on schedule.

Proving once again that I am an idiot.

Thank you. I've put myself on kefir.

I HATE that news @motie2. If surgery turns out to be required, I'm praying that that will be the light at the end of the tunnel.
You remain on my list brother...
Appointment with the urologist at 9:30 this morning.
You and me brother....we've got his, just another bump in the road
