@Woodsman I was told only the products found under the "COCOA" website entry were eligible for free economy shipping. Fortunately the hobbit pipes were under that offer. Unfortunately they are presently out of stock on 2 of the 3 hobbit pipes, one of which is the one I wanted...
@KA9FFJ When I want an MM Cob I buy direct from Missouri Meerschaums. If it's one of their regular pipes I always order a spare stem or two at the same time, My cobs are the only type pipe I clench while working in the yard or on the car, etc. and their stems are a bit soft. The Cobbit stems are Vulcanite and so far they don't sell spares.
@Woodsman Good to know. Never thought of checking out MM Co. for cobs. I must be conditioned to go directly to P&C for most of my needs. I will definitely check them out. Right now I have my heart set on an MM Cobbit Elf. I read some good reviews and, unlike you, I plan on using it as a "rocking chair pipe". I already have several "work" pipes designated for yard work, etc. But thanks again for the tip. I'll check them out tomorrow...
Legend has it a German immigrant to the area broke his meerschaum pipe, went to the local woodsmith who promptly fashioned him a pipe from readily available corncob material. The guy like it so much the woodsmith began cranking out corncob pipes and the legend "Missouri Meerschaum" was born. I have a friend who's aunt used to apply the varnish to the pipes back in the 50's and 60's back then it was not called Missouri Meerschaum it was called something else the name eludes me at the moment but I'm sure I'll have a Tourette's moment as soon as I post this.
Half my pipes are cobs. And I smoke a cob at least half the time. I think I may even grab for a cob more often than not. At the very least, no pipe collection is complete without a few cobs. I like to purchase my cobs and accessories from Scott at Aristocob.
I do believe a Missouri meerschaum needs to be next in my list, my good friend just got one as his first pipe and it seems to smoke very well, and up until now he has borrowed my pipes (one of mine that he often smoked was a briarworks) and he seems to think it compares well.
I keep a dozen of the cheaper $5.00 ones on hand to try out new blends or to occasionly smoke an aromatic blend. The cheaper models have small bowls which make excellent sampling pipes. I use them several times then chunk them.
I have 6 or 7? MM they all smoke great. I am glad I smoked the two Latakia tobaccos I have in them rather than a briar....the sweetness of the new cob came through the smoke and made the Latakia “almost” palatable....I said almost. Me thinks me hates Latakia.....no....I know me hates Latakia😖. Nasty stuff to clean out of “estate” pipes too....almost not worth the trouble.
My all day WORK pipe, is a MM maple, and I have smoked it for years now, actually I have 3 in all, because like i say it's my work pipe. Great smoker, tough, and fits great in my shirt pocket...lol...love it!...

This time around, I can't stand it. Go figure.
