Re: What are you guys smoking right Now?
I was right, I received my “Certified Pete Geek” CPG Zippo in the mail today. I’m going to use my butane Z-Pipe insert and touch off a bowl of 10+ year old Villiger Stokkebye “Luxury Twist Flake” in the RATOS this evening. I’m paring it with a nice strong hot black Lipton tea with an added “touch” of “Yellowstone” 93 proof bourbon.
Notice the color of the tobacco flakes after 10 years….they use to be a light tan, nearly the same shade as my tabletop. When I first started this journey, this was one of the first 10 or so tobaccos I purchased….I hated it, and I also had my one and only burnout in a brand new, first bowl, small Peterson Calabash (oops, two burnouts. I forgot about the burnout in my first homemade pipe from a pre-drilled block. I knew it was too thin. The pre-drilled block was drilled atrociously when I got it). I did send the Pete Calabash back to Peterson of Ireland and they did cover it under warranty and sent me another….which I still have. I didn’t cover my own under warranty😬. I will say, this tobacco with a few years of age on it is monumentally better, and it has a slight vinegar note. Also, not sure if it’s the real function, but those weird cuts in the RATOS bowl make this an easy pipe to pack with the “air pocket” method.

Having multiple blends tonight. Smoking Friday Savinelli while sipping Woodford Reserve. Beautiful night.

We're close. 75 here, which is great considering the alternative...😏
Also when we screw up, we can always fall back on the "age card"...😁

To My Sorrow, There Can Be No Common Ground With the Left

It's a shame it actually has come to this, but I agree with this opinion piece to a great extent. Years ago I could speak with a democrat about the 'issues' affecting all of us, now though, you can't. What did it for me was:
The idea that blacks can't be conservative, calling them names like "Uncle Tom", etc.
Letting males compete in female sports
Encouraging children to sexually transition without their parent's consent
The focus on 'sexual identity' in schools rather than simply teaching the 3-R's
Unrelenting freaking out that took place about masking and vaccines
Refusing to define what a woman is
Defunding the police
No-bail criminal system
The outright encouragement and justification of rioting and looting
Constant barrage of negative comments against those that live in rural areas
Obvious hypocrisy from the climate change movement, private jet usage, limos, etc
The "canceling" of people simply because they have different opinions from yours
And I probably missed a few I'm sure.
I used to say that this will all cycle itself out, I'm not so sure now, though. The Bill Mahers of the world that have the guts to bang some heads together within their own party are simply too few and far between. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

Re: Pipe refinishing
I usually just chuck up a 1 1/2 wood speed bit that I have modified to cut a bevel in the drill press…now the mill and finish with a light hand sanding. The round ball sounds good for “trimming”, I may make a wooden cone on my lathe to match my beveled bit. Thanks for the idea👍🏻
Re: What are you guys smoking right Now?
I loaded this RATOS with some 10 year old+ Sutliff “Moulin Rouge”. It’s finally dry enough to smoke straight from the jar. Dang, I need a haircut, what a bum.

Re: Pipe refinishing
I hauled out another pipe I refurbished years ago but have yet to smoke. It’s a RATOS Select Old Briar Handmade in France. It was smoked very lightly before I became it’s conservator. It has the strangest inner bowl treatment I have seen. It has several deep gouges, they are factory, because I have seen them in other RATOS pipe pictures. It has a well in the mortise like a Peterson System, but it has a weird stem insert, I guess it serves the same purpose as the “chimney” in a Pete Deluxe System? The stem is partially lined with an aluminum tube as well. We’ll see how it smokes today😉

@KA9FFJ
It’s Bakelite, here is a picture that shows what it looks like a bit better. It looks closer to real amber than the first picture suggests.
