Re: What are you guys smoking right Now?
Just finished making and caning this years Salsa and Bloody mix and decided to have the inaugural smoke of my Design Berlin Neptune pipe with some Comoy's cask 11.
I know it seems odd that I would be doing this in October but the San Marzano tomatoes I grow for this can be allowed to continue to ripen for a month in the house which makes for a much sweeter salsa.

Re: What are you guys smoking right Now?
Bought a tin of Sillem's Commodore Flake (Kohlhase & Kopp) at our pipe club meeting last Saturday and decided to give it a try this morning.
It was rated 3.7 on tobacco reviews and is purportedly composed of Black Cavendish, Kentucky, Latakia.
Its not a Lat-bomb but it is smoky, the black cavendish works to smooth it out some and the Kentucky gives it some nuttyness. Need to try it more to really give it a chance, though from today's experience I would rate it a 2.9.
This blend is not for the faint of heart and I would recommend smoking it in a smaller pipe as the nicotine level is quite high as pipe tobacco goes. Smoked in a smaller Peterson bulldog.

Does any of what George Carlin is talking about in this video remind you of anything recent? LOL

Re: The Loot! - What's your latest tobacco purchase?
“Mail Call” today was two tins of the third in the series “Birds of a Feather” by Per Georg Jensen “Aberrant” and an EBay refurbed estate pipe. It is a WDC Milano with the 1925 patent Hesson Guard, shape #1557. It is pretty clean, but not clean enough for me. I am wondering how nasty the internals are going to be, they are almost always filthy with EBay “refurbs”. They know all of the time consuming, and expensive nasty work is on the internals. They usually just “make them shiny” on the outside. This one has been partially reamed, but still needs more. Also, the threaded tenon stem-shank rotation does not line up, a sign that the face of the stem and face of the mortise have some buildup.

I fired up another bowl of the GH “Dark Flake-unscented” for @mfresa this evening 🙂. This tobacco is definitely smokey, but not in a sweet BBQ way like SG “Black XX”. It’s more of a railroad tie creosote smokey. It’s kinda sharp and burns my nose on retrohale. I wonder if the Malawi is smoked over old railroad ties? It’s all tobacco..whew. I smoked this in a larger MM rubbed out yesterday and it was strong, but not overly. Tonight “I had a feeling”, so I loaded this little Pete straight System 31 with a folded and stuffed partial flake. I’m glad I did, the nic snuck up on me right away and I had to crunch a couple of hard candy mints to stave off any unfortunate spewing by me. I get a very slight hint of molasses, and no Lakeland at all. I think some of the reviews on tobacco reviews.com that tasted the Lakeland must have been smoking the scented type? The flakes are pretty dense, mine were at about the right moisture, but the fold-n-stuff is a bitch to keep lit. It may be the reason the nic hit got me, I had to pull much harder to keep it lit. I would recommend rubbing these flakes out. It is nowhere near as strong as SG “Black XX”, and no real sweetness like the “Black XX” has. It does have something I have not tasted before, probably the Malawi dark fired and/or the Indian Dark air-cured? Some say it’s cigar like, but I don’t get that either, but I have not smoked a wide variety of cigars. I’m about half way through, and it has settled down markedly and is getting smoother. Like all GH and SG tobaccos I have tried, this is going to smoke to a nice dry ash. There is some slight moisture in the system well of the little Pete. There is no bite whatsoever. There is a bit of “floral-ness”/“green-ness”? but not like “old lady perfume” and definitely not hay. Maybe a very slight hint of eucalyptus? There is a touch of a sour note as well. It’s not something I could smoke very often, lucky I bough a full 9 ounces…not. A Damn sucker for freebies I am. I’m pretty sure some of this will be left in my cellar when I’m gone, unless I get some friends over to help me smoke it. Too bad I don’t have any friends here that smoke pipes. I think I’m going to empty my full butane lighter keeping this flake lit. I really don’t want to pull hard or often enough to keep it lit. I will persevere however.

Middleton's Kentucky Club Mixture in a MM Diplomat, I bought several Middleton tubs about a year before they stopped making some of what I thought was some pretty good blends, just my thoughts though.
