Re: What are you guys smoking right Now?
@mapletop
I have found that I do enjoy me some dark fired Kentucky.
After a Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner of a Cheese Omelette, toast, coffee, some bacon, one strip seasoned with black pepper, one with a light dusting of cajun crawdad seasoning, and one with a sprinkle of Alpine Touch “Chili Sublime” at 3PM, I am smoking my Sillem’s 444 loaded with some C&D “Espresso”.

Re: The Loot! - What's your latest tobacco purchase?
I almost forgot to check the mail today. I received the next tobacco in the “Birds of a Feather” by Per Georg Jensen series “Eccentric”….ahh…the bane of a collector. I bought it even though it has nasty Latakia in this blend. I’ll give it a shot, but I’m pretty sure I won’t smoke much, if any, more, silly, I know. I also grabbed a Decatur Pipe Shield to see how well it works, or doesn’t, and to get free shipping. I got another free bottle for some reason, it was added to my cart as a freebie, so what the hay. There is an interesting caveat at the bottom of the directions…..briar is wood right🤔

Re: What are you guys smoking right Now?
Mail call today. I finally found that sneaky Prince Albert in the can. I had a heck of a time trying to figure out how to get him out. My first tub, I feel like such a newb. I thought there was some kind of seal to remove besides the outer shrink wrap, nope, just pry the lid off. I had to “pinch” the tub so I could get under the lid. I repacked it in my vintage tin…because I can…and because it’s cool🙂.
I packed my first bowl of PA in the estate pipe I received in the same package, a Luciano Pease/Di Piazza Chubby Poker.

Relaxing with some Molte Dolce in a Smoker's Haven bent...
You really have to let this blend dry before partaking. It comes way too wet. However, once that is done, I really enjoy the flavor...

Re: Pipe refinishing
Personally I don't think they are worth much. Bowl coatings, I mean. Yes you can taste a little briar on the first bowl, but after that it is diminished. By the third bowl I don't taste briar at all. On pipes without a coating, that is.

Re: Pipe refinishing
Personally, I dislike bowl coatings. They do “spiff” up the chamber, but I am always thinking that it’s there to cover something up. I think that most, if not all bowl coatings cause a wet smoke and stem gurgle. I remove them from any pipe as soon as I get them. I have had a couple of EBay refurbs that had that ‘Water Glass” bowl coating, that stuff is just not right, it is impossible to remove. One might as well smoke a porcelain or glass pipe. Peterson recently started using a new bowl coating that is what I believe to be gum Arabic and activated charcoal. I like it a lot because it is easily removed with warm water😉. I did try smoking one of my new Peterson’s that had it, it made the pipe smoke wet, and it just kinda balled up and got sticky. I cleaned the ash and removed the coating and the pipe instantly smoked much better. Bowl coatings won’t stop me from buying a pipe that has it though🙂.
