Re: Pipe refinishing
I also brightened up the logo.
Once done, I polished and buffed both stummel and stem. Here's the final:

Re: Country Squire
@PappyJoe - because they started discussing things that had really little to do with pipe smoking.
That’s why I left another internet group. I’m too old to waste my limited time arguing. I’m here for fraternal sharing. About pipe smoking.

@Montecristo
I'm sure you've already seen there are various controversial threads dedicated to certain topics outside of pipe smoking in this group...our rule of thumb is 'if you don't want to see it, don't click on it'. That said, there aren't many of us on here and we're all fairly experienced pipe smokers (myself about 40 years now in fact).
This group is more a bunch of seasoned guys that you would find at a cigar and pipe lounge somewhere shooting the shit about their wives, families, hobbies, politics, etc. There isn't but so much to talk about if you only focus on pipes and pipe tobacco--especially if you have the number of years smoking that we have.
I was on another far more popular site for about a year before it became clear that there were only two genres--junior smokers asking advice and senior/know-it-all smokers giving it (and mostly giving bad advice by the way), and very little else...it became boring very quickly. Then you had the moderators...I won't even comment on them. This site isn't actively moderated, which to me, is a good thing. We're far freer to speak our minds on this site, but with collegiality as well, which is a nice combination.
This site may or may not be what you are looking for in the end, but we're a bunch of good guys just trying to shoot the shit, and if pipes and tobacco work there way into it (which it often does), of course we comment on it, but it's not necessarily the sole focus of this site. Art, guns, politics, dirty jokes, cussing, etc., are what guys in a lounge would be talking about, and we do that here too.
We do a lot of chatting about pipes and smoking (I often post pipe sales and specials and such and comment on technique), but don't get offended by anything we say...we're all old, we're all experienced, and we all take it with a grain of salt...it's just something to bullshit about.

Re: Defensive and Everyday Carry
Here's what I'm saving up for. I'm still short about half the cost. I'm also having trouble figuring out how to blame @vtgrad2003. That excuse is starting to wear thin with me Bride anyway.

Re: Cleaning rims
On pipes that mater I follow @KA9FFJ 's rules but if your trying to preserve your rims you have to go farther.
I coat my rims with 2-4 coats of Paragon wax as it has the highest melt point of any pipe wax; after each smoking I clean the rim with hot distilled water and then re-coat them with the Paragon wax.
Now I know that sounds like work and it is, but if your smoking a pipe you really care about, this is what I do.
I would note that my day to day / work pipes have so much lava that they could shame krakatoa.

Re: Cleaning rims
I've always regarded rim "lava" to be a sign of an accomplished pipesmoker; a sign of achievement.
I have no desire to remove it except - maybe - as part of an extensive cleaning operation.
I think of my pipes as tools, not as collector pieces. Of course, I am a cheap old bastard, and none of my pipes were more that $50.00

Re: Pipe Smoking and Spitting
@mfresa
@Londy3 is a prime example of what to do while smoking a pipe. IMHO, I think you'll find the tendency to spit will all but leave if you sip on a beverage while doing a bowl...
Of course, what's true for some doesn't necessarily equate to being true for all...
