I forgot to mention…..yesterday while enjoying the buffet at Pizza Ranch for lunch, I spied a gentleman smoking a pipe in his pickup outside in the parking lot. So, yes, there are others here in Billings….that makes at least four🙂.

Interesting news from Kentucky. Louisville lifts bans on smoking in cigar bars. The bar has to have 15% of it sales coming from cigars or pipe tobacco. Cigarettes or Vaping will not be allowed in these establishments. This is like Whiskey & Ashe, a cigar bar in my little town. They have a walk-in humidor, pipe smoking is allowed and a big sign on the door says No Cigarettes, No Vaping allowed.
If you live in South Louisiana, you understand that this isn't sexist.
The worse I've ever seen was the sign next to a seafood shop that said "Got Crabs!". Driving down the street, the sign appeared to be in front the bar next to the seafood shop.
Today was a day for accidents in the Lacombe/Slidell area. I decided to take 190 back to Slidell after my bike ride. Between Transmitter Road and the old flea market, Hwy. 190 was closed in both direction because of an accident. Must have been bad because two ambulances passed me going towards Mandeville.
So, I decided to take Transmitter Road to Bayou Paquet Road to get to the old mall. My intentions were to go to Walmart and then the cemetery. I stopped at the stop sign, checked both directions and turned left. About 75 feet down the road, I got passed on the passenger side by a 2008 hybrid that decided to go in the ditch.
Other than all the mud, which washed off, there was no damage to the Subaru or my bike.
The 17-YEAR OLD driver (remember that) of the other car was also ok even if he did get wet. He got out, called his mother who was there in just a couple of minutes since they lived just past the stop sign.
In the meantime, a man in a pickup stopped. He had a tow chain and after the 17-year old found the tow hook on the Prius pulled it out of the ditch.
The mother arrived. She didn’t yell or scream at me. She saved that for her son who was pretty damn cool after driving into the ditch (no pun intended). In fact, she checked to make sure I was okay and asked about damage to my Outback. She then thanked me several times for stopping to check on her son. She didn’t want my insurance information, just wanted to get the car back to their house. She told me that the insurance on either the car or the 17-year old had just expired yesterday.
I asked if she wanted me to call the Sheriff’s department. She said it wasn’t necessary. Several people stopped and asked also. She really was hoping to get out of there before the Sheriff’s department showed up. Two sheriff’s deputies stopped by anyway.
Why didn’t she want them there you asked. Well, the car wasn’t the 17-year olds. It was his older brother’s car. (The mother kept telling the 17-year old that his brother was going to beat his ass.) Anyway, the first deputy on scene knew the family. That’s when the mother spoke up and reminded the deputy that “the 17-year old was the one “ticketed” last month for driving 156 mph on I-12 in his BMW. She then told the deputy that her son had just totaled his BMW last week.
Let’s update the score card.
1. Young driver who was recently ticketed for driving his BMW 156 mph on I-12.
2. Young driver who recently totaled his BMW.
3. Young driver pulls onto the road and going fast enough to leave about a 50 foot skid mark before just missing the back end of my car and going into a ditch filled with water. When his mother arrives, she looks at him and says, "I can't still smell the rubber from the skid marks."
The two deputies talked to me. Said since the mother didn’t want to exchange insurance info, since there was no damage to my Outback and since technically, I wasn’t involved in the accident because the driver didn’t hit me, I could go. He also said I didn’t even have to stop and wait because, again, I wasn’t involved in the accident.
So how did your day go?
His car:
(After pulling it out of the muddy water, the hybrid vehicle still started up.)
My Suburu Outback. That's just the mud the splash up when he went in the ditch.
After my wife passed, I started walking for exercise and mental well being. In September I bought a bike and I have been riding a minimum of five miles when I can. First is a picture of me in my snazzy new cycling jersey with my bike. Second. The app on my phone keeps track of my exercise This was today's session.
I'm not opposed to Emotional Support Animals but I believe some people stretch it too far. It would surprise me if 80% of the Emotional Support Animals you see in Walmart are just pets that people are too stupid to leave at home when they go shopping. I've been waiting for a story like this... https://thedailyhorn.com/cowboys-ride-emotional-support-horses-in-walmart/

Whatever it pertains to, it makes me want a big crawdad boil😋
In this instance, crabs. The seafood kind caught it Lake Pontchartrain. Not the smaller ones caught on Bourbon Street.
I’m Okay.
