@jfreedy I really like that poker. I’ve been dreaming of a @Corey562 freehand poker ... but we’re saving all excess cash right now for an adoption. Yours looks great though!
After a busy weekend getting a tattoo (see the tattoo thread for more info) and family time, I can finally get some pipe time in. Seattle Pipe Club’s Potlatch in my Morgan bones pipe.
Trying some Sutliff Caramello J2 in my Manges 0085. My personal opinion: light on caramel flavor ( it's there, just very light). Easy to light, ribbon cut, nice aroma a mild smoke. 1 to 10, I'll give it a 7.5... Flavor becoming more robust as I approach 1/2 bowl... May wind up rating it higher...
Saw another pipe that really looked nice on Ebay from a Polish pipe maker and it arrived today. Really light weight given the size and the workmanship was quite excellent, on top of which it was relatively cheap. So tonight it we'll see how it smokes. G. L. Please Gaslight fo the first whole bowl.
Been smoking a lot of different aromatics this summer. I've enjoyed the four blends I bought at the Gatlin-Burlier tobacco shop in Gatlinburg - Mellow Moonshine, Black Jacks Bourbon, Rum & Maple and Cade's Cove. Picked up a tin of Bat With A Hat at The Briary in Birmingham and it's good also. For the last week or so though, I've been smoking the last of my Petersons Irish Flake from July 2016. I put it in a jar in 2017 and forgot it in my cellar. Been smoking it to break in the Peterson Kapp-Royal I recently restored.
I just finished a bowl of Nording Hunter Labrador in a Kaywoodie briar, one of my MANY favorite blends. Earlier today I experimented adding a pinch of blending Perique to a bowls worth of Captain Black original. The taste was really good as the Perique added a very pleasant sweet and yet kind of a earthy flavor at the same time. I was very surprised how just a pinch could hijack the CB tobacco of which I do smoke often. I have to admit this was my maiden voyage wih adding Perique to anything else. Two smokes today, probably none tomorrow.
Well... after a couple of business trips out of town, a week off for vacation, and another two weeks to catch back up from all of that, I've finally found some time to sit down and catch back up with a pipe and a cup of tea. I'm enjoying a bowl of the new Three Nuns Yellow in a basic Meerschaum apple while reading the last month's worth of posts!
@pwkarch, I tried adding a little Lane VBC to the CB Original the other day and liked it quite a bit. The CB seems to allow a complimentary flavor to come through nicely.
