@Rustedrailpipes Per your recommendation I bought a pouch of Casey Jones "Last Ride" with my last P&C tobacco order. I liked it the first time I tried it, but something about the pouch and room note, as well as the taste was very familiar to me - but I couldn't put my finger on it at the time. This afternoon I was freezing my ass off in the garage enjoying a bowl of Captain Black Royal while watching John Carpenter's "They Live" and I realized this was the blend that reminded me of Casey Jones "Last Ride". Immediately after smoking the bowl of CB Royal I pulled out the bottled Mason jar of "Last Ride". Gave it a sniff, eyeballed both blends side-by-side, then loaded the bowl, and as early as the char light realized these are the same blends. If there is a subtle difference it isn't in the pouch note, room note, or flavor. They are one in the same. Whatever difference is indistinguishable. So taking that into consideration and checking the price of both blends in the P&C catalog, a pouch of Captain Black Royal is $6.49 and Casey Jones is $5.49. So Casey Jones seems the best deal for exactly the same flavor and room note. Where Captain Black has Casey Jones beat is Captain Black can be bought in bulk for about $1.50 an ounce.
@ghostsofpompeii Well there you go! Now I'm going to have to try Casey Jones Last Ride... You guys just keep talking, and I gotta keep trying all these different blends that I normally wouldn't even be thinking about! Seriously, thanks for the review. I appreciate being tobacco blend educated...
Tried both Casey Jones blends some time ago. Long enough that I don't remember details, but I DID find that I prefer the "Last Ride" to the "Hero's Blend".
Oh, and I've found myself re-ordering Cornell & Diehl's "Dark Chocolate" a couple of times.
@AnantaAndroscoggin Well Hello, I don't believe I've seen you posting before. Are you a newcomer or an I simply late in making your acquaintance? If you're a new comer ... Welcome to the group. And it's nice to have another member of the Brotherhood of Bearded Pipers among us.
