@Philip -- My pleasure, sir. I have a pretty extensive database of interesting pipe and tobacco websites. Tell me what you are interested in and I'll try to point you to a URL.
I finally got around to cleaning and smoking the jobey and I must admit that I like my mm hardwood better. Taste wise they are identical (after learning to draw even slower on the jobey due to the increases bowl and stem hole size) but the physical differences are the issue. My mm is a bent stem and the jobey is a straight stem. This didn't seem to be much of an issue but the weight of the jobey is significantly higher making it quite hard for a hands free smoke.
The jobey stays much cooler in the hand than my mm. Maybe I'm just a bent stem guy?
I did receive the butz choquin (another straight stem) I won but haven't had a chance to clean it yet. It seems lighter than the jobey so that's a plus. Really looking forward to trying it out.
As far as tobacco goes I have been steadily mixing it up between a bowl of 965, Irish flake and Prince Albert. I don't want to take on too many tobaccos at once as I notice subtle differences in them each time I smoke them With the exception of the Prince Albert. I have noticed that the otc brands change very little. When this pouch of Prince Albert goes I'm going to buy a pouch of carter hall.
I am also looking forward to trying frog mortons cellar.
Simple, apologize for the late response. If you are smoking three or four times a week, not smoking a really wet tobacco, the Dunhill 965 not being one, and run a pipe cleaner through the pipe after smoking, you should be in good shape. I guess I could summarize all that with two words, experience and satisfaction.
Very nice pipe, but I like the Dunhill he got a while back. It's worth a look to check out that video. Although, he did put a little rubber nipple on it like a baby bottle. What the heck is that about?
@Phillip I used to wonder the same thing when-ever I'd see a pipe with a softy bit. I guess they do protect the stem from tooth chatter, and especially good for clenchers who worry about damaging their teeth. But for me it only adds to my gag reflex problem by making the mouthpiece wider. I was forced to put a softy bit on one pipe (I've already showcased it on the Daily Briar Photoshoot) my Bribbia Calabash. But I did so because I started to notice the beginning of a deep tooth mark on the bit and didn't want to make it worse. So the pipe is now definitely a 'holder'.
@motie2 I suck at bargaining. And it doesn't matter if I show excitement with the item of seem somewhat disinterested. A lot of the places I go to the dealers are pretty set in their prices ... and might just come down a few bucks at best. And then in the case of consignment shops the owner doesn't have that much leeway since they're renting out spaces and don't actually own the items on display. So usually the store owner will try to contact the renter of the booth or display case and get their best asking price. But nine times out of ten the shop owner can't get the other party on the phone. Then they will give me the obligatory ... "I'm contact them and next time you're in I'll give you his best price". Normally when I'm out browsing in an antique store or consignment shop my purchases are impulse buys. And once I'm out of the store chances are I might not go back after I've had time to reflect on whether I really need the item or not. And the answer is usually NOT.
We drove up to Hattiesburg yesterday to check out the antique junk shops. The first one had 3 Prince Albert tins but I don't collect those. The 2nd one had two Kaywoodies which they claimed were 60 years old and were priced at $58 each. I looked at them. They were 3 Digit Kaywoodies. I told her they were incorrectly dated as the 3 digit Kaywoodies were made between 1972 and 1980s. That and that you can buy a brand new Kaywoodies for around $25 bucks.

I'm trying to knock off the PAD. I only go to Ebay once a day and try not to put a pipe on the watch list.
