KA9FFJ -- Thank you for the kind thoughts. With electricity restored yesterday afternoon (but with baseboard heating, not forced air), it took about eight hours to come up to 70 degrees all over the house.
Got out of church, grabbed a coffee and now I’m hanging in my backyard at home with some Country Squire IPSD 2018 blend. Trying to decide my next bowl because the Tom Sawyer MM isn’t very big.
Frog Morton on the Bayou still. Think I’ll either pack some FM Cellar or open my tin of Balkan Blue next. Hopefully I can scrounge an empty jar around here.
<<I hope it didn't affect your back too badly...>> Sciatica is inflammation of the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the body. The Trauma began near the lower lumbar region, but what hurts is the thigh, knee, and shin area.... i.e.the leg. A month of excruciating pain (bulging eyeballs and screaming). When it got more than SWMBO could take, I got to ride in the ambulance with the lights and siren on. The hospital took Xrays and a sonogram, and sent me home with advice to take four OTC ibuprofens at a time. (This is NJ, where you cannot get opiates anymore because of the rules FatBastard put in place before he slunk off the scene. Note: When my youngest, 38, fell and shattered his elbow, the ER docs told him to take four ibuprofens. Here's the Xray taken after surgery, performed two weeks after the accident. He had no medical insurance.) A Muslim surgeon offered to do the job for free, but it took us two weeks to negotiate an operating room. Why? The hospitals would only deal with the 38 year old male patient. We were not allowed to represent or speak for him, and he was out of his mind with pain.....).
And thank you @KA9FFJ and @jfreedy -- Thank you for the kind thoughts,
Wow, @motie2, that stinks! I guess I'm glad I live in Oklahoma. When my mom lived in California she still came back to Oklahoma for most of her appointments/procedures because the waiting list was insane in Cali.
I'm smoking some PS Luxury Twist Flake in my newly gifted baby Peterson estate pipe. It's much smaller than my other Pete's. Took a lot of cleaning but smokes great!
Damn Sam.....that story is unreal. Somewhat similarly, many years ago I had a herniated disc and a crushed nerve that eventually led to my first back surgery. I awoke in the middle of the night about 3 weeks before Christmas. I NEVER felt pain like that and I have been banged up numerous times in my life. So I go to the doctor who immediately told me what the problem was. The insurance company however would not approve surgery until I went through CatScans, EMG's, an MRI, and a Mylegram so they MIGHT NOT have to pay for surgery. I went from well before Christmas to about the second week in January before I could be fixed. That was a very low point in my life as I was just out of it. The first night I awoke, I swore someone drove a steel bar down my left leg all the way to my ankle.
After the surgery I was out of the excrutiating pain and just had to heal after 3 days in the hospital. I have however not had a pain free day since then. I also developed the same issue on my right side from my back to just below my knee. I have been diagnosed with severe bi-lateral spinal stenosis. I am all signed up and ready for surgery again to "fuse" five vetebrae to make three stable. Uh, no way.........unless it is a dire pain emergency. EVERY doctor I have seen has admitted that they would not have fusion performed on themselves. I assume however they push that procedure because their bosses urge them to do so ($$$$$).
I will just keep smoking my pipes and as the situation warrants I will go to the Irish Whiskey.
American "Corporate" Medicine (and Insurance as well) just sucks.....

@motie2 Happy to hear things are starting to get you back into a "civilized" routine. I hope it didn't affect your back too badly...
