We have a 2 month old puppy (rescue) that is half husky and half lab. My kids named her Rosie and she loves hanging out with me on the porch while I puff my pipe
We live out in the boon docks, our closet neighbor is an off road park... several years ago we were out night swimming in the pool and heard whimpering, thought it was one of our two pound pups having gotten out of the house. Instead it was a cast off Rottie mix that had a hernia, tons of fleas and clearly had been abused... tired her to the tree and have her some water and food with a couple raw eggs... she survived and now is my son's dog, 75 lbs of beauty and power who looks at my son like the he is the sun coming up in the morning. Goes on 5 mile runs with him and has become a joy in our life. Could not imagine not having Roxie...
I have an elderly cat and he doesn't give a damn about anything. Having a dog is having a pet; having a cat is like living in a house with an indifferent wild animal. Dog looks at you and thinks, "You care for me, feed me, play with me, love me..... you must be God." Cat looks at the same deal and thinks, "I must be God."
I wish I had a dog. I was raised with dogs, but now I have to wait for the cat to die..... He'd never tolerate a dog.....
