Pick up this Savinelli Grand Prix unsmoked 20 dollars my buddy at the antique store I hit alot saved it for me, He brought me 3 nice briar blocks as well.
@judandhispipe - I have one of them made by Whitehall. It's a used pipe one of my son found at an estate sale a couple of years ago that I cleaned and smoke occasionally. It has a smaller bowl and the longest I've smoked it has been about 45 minutes. I use it when I don't have as much time to sit as I usually do.
My understanding is that the first leather wrapped pipes were made by Longchamps in France starting after World War II. The carvers didn't have good quality briar, so a technique of covering the briar with leather was created. The pipes were popular with pipe smoking servicemen and they brought a lot of them back from Europe.
I think there may be a company or two that still makes leather-clad pipes but couldn't say for sure.
