I really enjoy JM Boswell's berry cobbler. That being said, i think i could find myself liking a cherry blend. What are your recommendations of the best cherry/berry blend in production today?
Whoispra, not sure how deep in cherry flavor you wish to go but “Cult Blood Red Moon” I find to be a nice blend. Very nice and mellow with a cherry touch within.
Middleton’s Cherry Blend was pipe training wheels for many guys. Most didn’t stay with it for long; it did indeed bite like a barracuda, but it smelled great.
Next question. Currently out of isopropyl at the house but just bought an estate pipe (unsmoked) and I just want to clean out the stem/shank and maybe give the bowl a little rinse. Would a bourbon from the cabinet be sufficient or does it really need to be everclear?
Hello Pipe and Tobacco Aficionados hope all is well. Seeking information on the "Cavalier Tobacco Pipe" and the moisture trap. If anyone has one of these pipes or you are familiar with it can you provide information on what you use to catch the moisture within the trap. I was unable to fine anything specifically made/used for this compartment of the pipe. Do you use cotton, filters or any other system that you may have made up? Thank you and remember smoke what you like and like what you smoke. Also, take some time to contemplate. :-)
<< Unlike a classical pipe, the humidity accumulates itself at the bottom of the shank (and therefore does not stagnate elsewhere in the pipe). This imprisonment of tobacco's humidity system is truly THE characteristic of a Cavalier pipe. This system that helps collect the juice turns out to be really practical to clean the pipe. To evacuate the excess of humidity, you just have to unscrew the cap that is under and then you can put a pipe cleaner inside to clean your pipe. >>
It seems that there is no absorbant involved or intended. It’s a passive moisture collection system.
Hello Motecristo, great to hear from you and thanks for the information. thinking on the sanitation side of things I was just wondering if there was any type of "obsorbent" method that was used. However pipe smoking equals cleaning and keeping the pipe clean will always take care of any if not most problems. :-) Once again I thank you.
@KABUL07 Wow, there are sooo many different cavalier/calabash/chamber/well/moisture collection types of pipes it’s ridiculous. Some use nothing, some cotton balls, some pipe cleaners or short lengths of pipe cleaners, paper tubes, charcoal/carbon filled tubes, balsa wood, maple wood, chalk, “stones”, and some I probably forgot or have not seen yet. A true cavalier pipe just has a drain plug, however….you could stuff a cottonball, piece of pipe cleaner, a few Eriksen Stones or whatever in the well, just keep whatever you fancy below the airway from the bowl into the mortise, then just push it out with a pipe cleaner after your smoke, or sooner if it gets too wet and “harshes your mellow”😖
RockyMountainBriar, thanks for the information and I think I see a couple of (give it a go) within the list. I hope all is well and that you are enjoying that special blend or blends as the spring time moves forward. :-)
How come we can no longer see who checks "Like", "Awesome", "HaHa" and etc. when we post comments? Have the administrators of TPL stopped updating our posts?
@opipeman I just read your comment concerning my LOTR pipe and I was able to select "Haha" with no problems. If all else fails, turn your phone/computer off and on (or restart/reset) and show it whose boss. Not saying it will work, but still worth a try...🤔
@KA9FFJ; It allows me to click on any of the "Like", "Awesome", "HaHa" and etc., but if someone checks any of those choices on one of my posts, I can't see who it is. It has been that way for a week or so.
@opipeman I'm usually on my phone with TPL, and I have never been able to ID them. However I have been able to do that using my computer. I'll have to check it out and see what's going on...
@opipeman I had also noticed that ability had been canned awhile back. In the past, my phone didn’t work for that option either, but my iPad and computer did.

Check out the "Cherry Blend Recommendations" thread.
May have some dated material, but it would be a good place to start...
I always use Everclear. It may be overkill on a new pipe, but you really don't know where its been.

Did you try "search for all or part of a tag"?
Yes, sir.
sah-SEENY or sah-see-EH-nee
I’d pick the second one, but it’s just a 50/50 guess with the two options.
Or @PappyJoe, what’s your opinion?
Back in the 1970’s we pronounced it sah-SEENY
I have personally never heard sah-see-EH-nee when talking to anyone.

I don't have a smart phone. I've always been able to view them on my computer.
Strange... I'll try to check it out after I finish my pipe...🤔
