@KA9FF1; I love the way you think. You are a devious man. I wished I had thought of that when I attended the Kansas City Pipe Show years ago.I hope you sell out and have a great and safe time. My best to you and the other brothers.
Well, the weather man lied to us. We presently are experiencing sporadic light showers off and on until around 6 pm. After that though, it clears and will remain clear the rest of the night tonight and all day tomorrow. Still cold Saturday... I guess unpredictable weather is the price you pay for being the 1st pipe show in the U.S. each year...
@thebadgerpiper @mapletop It's 48 here now, but will plunge to 17... yes, I said 17 by 6 AM! 😱 So, temperature-wise, hold on to your lug nuts!🥶 Oh, and the rain stopped about 3 hours ago...
Pictures and comments forthcoming once I've had a chance to get home. Had a great time, much thanks to KA9FFJ for being the quintessential host and to the St. Louis Pipe Club, absolutely wonderful great group of guys, can't say enough. Also a call out to the Masonic Lodge that hosted this show , can't remember the last time I was at a pipe show where I could smoke my pipe anywhere and everywhere during the show,
Here was my table just before the doors opened... By the end of the day, I was left with only a little over 20 pipes. It was a great day all around!... good company, good crowds, good sales...
Is your screen name, KA9FFJ, a ham radio thing, tail numbers for a plane, or does it represent something else? You don't need to answer if it's personal or anything, I was just curious.
I could not believe my self imposed restraint at the pipe show. This is all I came away with.. (besides some moolah)... a MM Charles Towne and a little Paronelli...
Oh, almost forgot; over the years I've made good friends with a couple that own a business and have had a table at the pipe show since I don't know when. Unfortunately with COVID restrictions, rising shipping costs, etc., they have decided to go out of business. Anyway, they had some odds and ends / damaged / mismatched stuff, etc. and decided to hand the box over to me. I'm going to see what can be salvaged and hopefully make useable... I'll show all the stuff individually as I start working on them. I think it will be challenging and fun.
@Londy3 Normally a few more vendors (5 - 6?), and the crowds don't usually start to die down until around 4. This year the crowds starting dying down around oh, 2:30 - 3. Wouldn't you say @mapletop@thebadgerpiper ?
@Londy3 Not really sure. According to the STL Pipe Club, all tables were paid for, but I noticed at least 2-3 tables were unoccupied... sickness? Travel problems? Who knows? It was still a great time and in a smoking environment!👍🏻
I would guestimate there is 50 to 60 tables, its like a 12 foot table and you get half of it.
KA9FFJ was about right on the time that things thinned out, but there is a sort of cadence to a pipe show and you make the rounds multiple times ( you will see thing you didn't notice) while taking occasional breaks, and there's always a lot of conversations had with the vendors.
Especially when one of the vendors you know from TPL.
And if your looking for deals, then coming in for the night before reception and staying till the end usually yields benefits. I bought 1 estate pipe, 3 new pipes ($15 each), 3 tins of Dunhill Durbar and one can of 2014 McClellands Dark Star virgina flake.
Both KA9FFJ and the St. Louis pipe club guys were fantastic hosts. The club had liquor and snacks up in a third floor room / lounge.
Friday night we shot the bull and drank and smoked till almost 10 pm while some of the club guys shared some vintage blends, one I smoked had to be at least 60 years old, it was a great time.
@mapletop @thebadgerpiper It really was good to meet you guys. Thoroughly enjoyed your company. Sidenote: Planning a trip down to Washington, MO. sometime late March. Have a cousin that lives there. Plan on visiting MM while I'm there...
@KA9FFJ I had a wonderful time visiting with you and hanging out/traveling with @mapletop . I have to say, it was the most fun pipe show I've been to, but that's mainly because I was with the two of you the majority of the time. The Chicago Show is a larger show, but I'd happily go back to the St. Louis show.
@thebadgerpiper Planning on a late March/early April trip to Washington, MO. I know you've been there already, but I'll keep you informed of the actual date in case there's a chance you (or anyone else for that matter) can get away and meet at the MM factory for the day...

Plaids were the order of the day...😁

Glad to see it went well. Looking forward to hearing and seeing more.

Sorry to butt in…but it is his ham radio call letters.
KB7WRW (Werewolf) signing off🙂
@RockyMountainBriar is correct... as usual😊

Glad you made it out of St. Louis alive and glad you made some money as well!!!
Your friends at the show gifted you some potential treasures. You will make some beautiful pipes out of that box of goodies.

I guess I assumed a much bigger show than that really.
