Apparently the older I get the harder it is to withstand the cold, so I'm smoking less because I can't spend as much time in my unheated garage. In the Spring, Summer, and Fall I'd bring a fistful of CDs into the garage and listen to a couple CDs while smoking my pipe. Now I'm lucky to listen to three songs on a single CD and a quarter bowl smoked before my old bones are aching and I'm back inside straddling the floor register letting the hot air up creep up my pant leg getting my neither region toasty warm.
@ghostsofpompeii Suggestion: Instead of going back inside the house and let the heat register shoot warm/hot air up your pants leg, you might want to try what I do. I set a small space heater about 3 feet away and let the warm/hot air drift up my legs, knees and upper torso. If I didn't do that on those really cold days, I wouldn't last any longer in my garage than you do in yours...
The back porch currently, but I’ve been known to sneak a bowl inside by the fireplace blowing the smoke up the chimney. I’ve also considered buying/building a shed (with heater & A/C) and make it my man cave to smoke in.
Not outside. Heavy snowfall in northern NJ. 11 inches so far. Snow falling about an inch per hour. Not supposed to stop until maybe tomorrow. First big snow in two winters. Feh.
Still no snow to speak of here in Billings, and it may gave got down to 10F, but I would’t bet on it.🤔 It seems we are headed for a nasty fire season if it keeps up like this. Rough on dry-land farmers too.
Pretty nice here today 63F sunny and a very slight breeze. Tomorrow, not so much, the forecast says 90% chance of snow with a high of 37F...Then Friday 50% chance of snow and 9F for the high, -2F for the low🥶. The next five days or so, highs in the low 20’sF and lows -2F to 7F or there about.
@RockyMountainBriar As long as you have heat in your house and can freely do a bowlful whenever you want in the comfort of your own home, I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for you...😏
@KA9FFJ And...It would be great if I could sit home and not have to go to work🙂. That’s not a dig on retirement, just the opposite. I hope I make it some day too, I just need to put in more time🙂
I'm not a big fan of the cold either. Even though I'm in the south, some nights can still be chilly for me. I don't pipe that much in the cold. It's just not enjoyable. I'm lucky to have a good pipe maybe one a week. I probably think about it more than I actually so it.
@RockyMountainBriar. AKA The King... I think most of us kinda hate you a little now 😂
A Southern Problem.... I just wish the damn weather would settle down and stop changing almost ever day or two. Past two days our high temp was in the mid- to upper 50s. The forecast high today is 70. Forecast high for tomorrow is 51. When the weather does this it tends to screw up my sinus and that means a day or two without a pipe.
In the winter, I heat my garage usually every night. A pipe by the workbench. Summertime, the front porch and usually stay up way too late enjoying the sounds of the evening and multiple bowls of whatever. If there is a thunderstorm in the summer, it makes it all the better.
My smoking time has been drastically cut due to the weather. It's too cold to smoke in the garage/man cave, so I'm relegated to smoking in the den sometime after 10:00 PM once my wife has gone to bed. The bedrooms are clear on the other side of the house and the smoke doesn't get to her there. She has respiratory problems, so out of consideration I no longer smoke in the house when she's present. She enjoys the smell of the aromatic blends, buys me tobacco for Christmas and other holidays, and has no problem with me smoking, as long as I'm in my man cave. She comes in on occasion to comment of the pleasant aroma - but doesn't stay long. Once the weather clears up I'll be smoking outside, or in my man cave throughout the day. But for the present I have to wait til night - sometime after 10:00 PM to enjoy a bowl or two. As a result I'm not making much of a dent in my cellar. At this rate my supply should last till the year 3000.
@ghostsofpompeii By the way, I'm not laughing at your post proper, but the last sentence is hilarious! My wife won't let me smoke in the house either. Her father died of lung cancer from cigarettes. She's not against me smoking and even buys me cigars for my birthday and such, but she doesn't like the smell at all.
I smoke anywhere on the property, my wife smokes cigarettes and is restricted to the upstairs bathroom with exhaust fan on or the Chapel, aka mud room.

🤨😏
Clearing snow at age 74 is tedious.

I saw your forecast and I really do feel for you...
It’s nothing compared to my two years in Fargo ND

Two weeks? And you live south of me! You have palm trees in your yard it's so warm down there!
Cold is a relative term. When I just want to enjoy a pipe, I also want to relax and unwind. When I'm cold I'm not relaxed.
