Hi This Pipe Lifers. I'm pleased to announce a new way for us all to interact.

We have created a This Pipe Life Facebook group page. This will give us an easy way to share instant updates. This is in no way intended to replace the forum here. Facebook is not a good platform for in-depth, searchable discussions like we have here. It is however a good way to allow us to interact more frequently and hopefully attract more pipers to our community.

This will be a closed group, so posts will only be visible to members. To join click this link, or copy & paste the URL below into your browser. When you get to the page, just click the blue "+ Join Group" button.

Thanks for the heads-up.

However, I'm of the opinion that Facebook, which has consumed SWMBO and my two adult sons, is where thinking goes to die. But that's just my opinion; I could be wrong. Nevertheless, I'd check it out....... if I was on Facebook.

I signed up for it. While Facebook has its issues, at least it's not as bad as the gutter of twitter (yet I'm on there, too...).

Yes, it's a bit of an experiment. My hypothesis is there are a lot of folks who engage on Facebook who wouldn't typically jump on a forum. Part of what I plan on doing is linking to forum content on the Facebook group in the hopes of encouraging others to join the discussion. We'll see...

Unlike the Luddites on the forum, I do use Facebook to connect to family and I also belong to different pipe groups on Facebook. I will be glad to participate.

I too have Luddite-type tendencies (I smoke a pipe and play a banjo, which pretty much says it all), but I am making a concentrated attempt to tap into my inner millennial.

I will be 66 next month but I've always had to belief that you don't really grow old until you stop learning new things. My only exception was digital photography because I am a trained old school photographer film photographer who could process and print whatever I photos I took. I hated digital then. Still don't like it, but I do use it.

I think you are right about getting a different audience. I am a mod for the Facebook group for pipesmagazine.com. It seems that there are a lot of guys on FB who are not in the Forum. Good luck - I applied.

I didn't even know there was a pipesmagazine facebook group.

We haven't needed mods here yet, as everyone is pretty well behaved. But I'm sure our time is coming!

Your goal of attracting more pipers using Facebook makes sense to me. Facebook has it's flaws, but it's a useful tool for getting the word out, particularly when "the word" promotes the hobby and provides information for all of us. I'm in!

Has been for several years. I really don't do much - admit some people, kick out people for trying to sell stuff. A while back I had to do an announcement reminding folks that we all have different tastes and levels of experience, and not to make condescending remarks to new pipers, etc. But that was one occurrence. That's it.

Great news. I do not visit the forum that often, but when I do I enjoy it. I am on Facebook more. I am part of several pipe and cigar groups on Facebook. I think this is a great idea.

I'm hardly on facebook anymore, just use it to keep in touch with some military buddies and family, but I'll be sure to check this out.

@motie2 - AGREED! I had Facebook forever. I am a musician and I did a lot of advertising local café and club gigs there. It was a useful tool. After my wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease I thought it might be helpful as a support group. There is not a litmus test that could measure the level of wrong I was. When faced with that, or any other kind of tragedy, Facebook is the wrong place to take your psyche. The meanness and hatred there caused me to delete both my personal and my music accounts. The YouTube YTPC is an awesome replacement community for me so far. For the past 5 days being here has been a breath of fresh air as well. @Leonard - I started a new Facebook page for the purpose of music events and to join this group. I won't be on much, but when I am I will surly check out this group. I will be here online @.com on a daily. Thanks for the opportunity.
