@Londy3 There we go!!! You just start a revolution! All this is non-nonsense, they legalized pot and I'm not surprise if in the future cocaine and others drugs become legal too, like in others Europeans countries. But follow the money and you will find the answers.
@riobrusa, Good! We need one! The majority of US legal citizens have to step up and fire back at this nonsense. I don't know why they are wimping out but they are. This behavior actually supports this kind of twisted thinking as the new standard!
It's a shame how so many of our traditions are being eroded by the PC culture and limp-wristed sensitivity of so many. I don't play along, I fight it. You'll never hear me say "Happy Holidays". I also open doors for women. I say "please" and "thank you". My kids were raised knowing the joys of Christmas. We read them the traditional Christmas stories and emphasized all the good things the holiday represents. We taught them the difference between right and wrong and treating each other with respect. Gone for many are the civility and courtesy we once extended to one another, but I like to think my family and even most of my friends refuse to kneel to the latest PC idiocy.
I say Merry Christmas to those acquaintances I know to be Christians. I say Happy Holidays to those I know to be non-Christian. What the heck is so offensive about that?
I find myself wishing people "Happy Holidays" more and more. I think this is because I know more people that have different beliefs. After all, I believe most cultures have similar base beliefs such as, be kind to others, don't steal, don't kill, and so on. I try to be polite and include everyone. I myself love the Christmas Spirit. I think that if I say Happy Holidays, you can take it how you choose. I take it as "Merry Christmas", someone else may take it another way, hopefully not in a bad way. For instance, if I was greeted with Happy Hanukkah, I would not be offended, in fact quite the opposite. I would be honored to be included in their holiday celebration. It does not mean I have to believe what they believe, just accept that they have their beliefs and they accept that I have mine.
Interesting side note? There was a young man (25-30) that worked with us for a brief time a couple of years ago. It was around Christmas and he said he and his wife did not believe in Christmas, so they did not celebrate Christmas or BUY presents for their children. Ok, I don't have issue with that, it's his belief. However, he did go to the local Toy's-for-Tot's and get a bunch of FREE gifts for his family. Does this seem hypocritical and cheap, or is it just me?
Happy Holidays! to all and Merry Christmas to any that aren't offended by it. Oh-Oh, now I probably offended every other person that I didn't greet specifically with their holiday greeting..if any....oh-oh...what about the ones that don't believe in anything. This is a losing battle..can I quit now? "Correctness" is tough, wouldn't it be easier if we all had a little "thicker skins"?
What I don't get is why anyone is offended by Merry Christmas, I mean think about it, if someone said to you happy Hanukkah or happy Kwanzaa or any other greeting, would you be offended, i think not and I think most people in the country would not be either.
It all just feigned righteous indignation with an agenda or said another way, its just the sneakier version of fascism. The snowflakes and their left wing handlers can pound sand.
Right. I'm with you. Anyone who disagrees with us is "evil" .... and probably in league with Satan and the folks who run the child sex ring out of the basement of a pizza parlor.... or was it the moon?
@motie2 Sarcasm duly noted, but that's not really what Londy3's saying.
Bolshevism, and that's what we are really talking about here, can only incubate in a society like ours when good people say and do nothing. After McCarthy everyone was reticent to say anything much about the far left out of fear of being castigated for their criticism.
The effect of the McCarthyism created a niche for the resurgence of Bolshevism
in the United States, and it is a great evil that cannot be ignored, the Marxist left
has consolidated on the fringes of the Democratic Party — and sometimes not
even on the fringes — as well as on campuses, where it polices the speech of
its members, fights to prevent students from hearing opposing viewpoints, seeks to control the language, and
teaches a dark, negative version of American history, one calculated to create
doubts about democracy and to cast shadows on all political debate.
The
followers of this new alt-left spurn basic patriotism and support America's
opponents.
If you want an example of how crazy its gotten, just review the ideas coming out of the mouth of the left's new darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’.
Hell, she threatened Trump Jr yesterday with subpoenas over protected free speech and she's not even in congress yet; she’s sounding more and more authoritarian by the day.
So the bottom line is that apathy and fear got us here and that we can and should push back Hard.
Oh, crap! Now I'm going to have to stay awake, staring at the ceiling in the dark, worrying about the Marxist left consolidating on the fringes of the Democratic Party......
@motie2 - It's not paranoia if they are really out to get you... I have been speaking up about the leftist controlling the higher educational systems in this country since the 1970s. The universities in California started it with the protest decade of the 60s and none of the officials at the universities did anything to stop the Marxist teachings. Instead they allowed the anti-war protests to be portrayed as grassroots efforts of the students against the way when it was really guided by professors who were communists.
@mapletop, this is exactly what I'm talking about. It sneaks up on the general population over time. The politicians sell it as its good and fair for the people. The general rection what I am talking about sounds like, your over reacting, your paranoid, what you say will never happen, everything is fine.
@motie2, stop and re-think sounds like your in the dark here or are sold out to the far left.
@PappyJoe, that is correct. This is a big deal. Pretending this is not happening is complete denial which also allows it to continue. So, doing nothing is a vote for socialism like Cortez.
The PC Marxist types have infiltrated a lot of my hobbies, such as comic books, video games, and gaming in general. However, there are many folks who are standing up to their nonsense and putting their foot down, including me. I think pipes are safe from them, since pipe smoke is offensive to most of these types. If they did try, well, I don't think they'd find a warm welcome here...
Yeah, anyone who disagrees with opinions expressed here is a dirty Bolshevik/Commie/Homo/antifas terrorist and should be tarred and feathered and run out of town . It's their time "in the barrel") This judgement also appilies to contrarians such as myself.
motie2: sounds like someone needs some cheese to go with their whine.
At 96 I have kind of seen it all and not much bothers me though there are some exceptions, one being people who belittle others opinions because they do not align with their own.
Wait.... What? When did I do that? <<people who belittle others opinions because they do not align with their own.>> Belittle? I took responsibility for being a dirty Bolshevik/Commie/Homo/antifas terrorist and should be tarred and feathered and run out of town.... At 72, I'd ask, "What's YOUR problem? Can dish it out but can't take it?"
My advice is to ignore me; to repeat: I'm a comic monkey
I guess it's the same philosophy being applied Popeye as to Santa and Frosty... Eliminate the pipe and through ignoring, piping will go away... Sad in a way...
I may have shared this before, but the youngest of my kids is a 10yr old special needs boy who wanted to be Popeye for Halloween this year. As he walked door to door, the neighbors kept commenting: "I hope that's spinach in your pipe!" To which he replied, "Popeye smokes tobacco not spinach." (He's not being a smart mouth - but his brain injury doesn't allow for any subtlety or innuendo - he sees things in black/white). Anyhow, he was a happy little sailor and thought you would all appreciate the level of detail he requested.
@Mangoandy, love it! I rhink people should think more black and white too. Lawyers and politicians have a way to blend everything to grey, nothing solid only ambiguity.

This too deeply offends me!

We can't stand silent and just watch it happen. I least I can't.

Oh, OK. I'll sleep better knowing that.......

I had to go back and look at the photo to see that Popeye didn't have his pipe.
My first thought was the thumbs down because Popeye preferred canned spinach and only ate raw spinach in extreme emergencies.
