I don't really dig filters, seems to restrict the tobacco flow, plus it seems like you have to change the filters to often.

If I don't have a Papyrate Filter I use a cut to size piece of stiffer brown paper towel wrapped loosely twice around the Magic Inch.

One nice thing about filters is that they keep stray bits of tobacco from sailing down the shank and stem, flying into your mouth at high speed bouncing off your tongue and lodging firmly in the back of your throat while you gag, drop the pipe and ashes all over your lap, hack and hack until your wife gets concerned, and end up kneeling on the floor in a pile of soot, with one ember bit smoking away.

i have smoked my bings favorite many times with and without, i prefer without, i honestly find i have less gurgle without filters, and when i do, i use a pipe cleaner.  filters remove that possibility

No, so far I've limited my seven pipe purchases on eBay to $20.00 plus shipping........
