It's definitely not a clencher. You have to put a headband (not included) with a strap and snap, to clip on the ring provided at the top of the shank. It's obviously the only way to free both hands while smoking...😏
I’ve been trying to acquire one of those “tube” Kirsten type pipes…they always go for more than I want to pay. I must not want one bad enough🙂. That one looks brand new.
@motie2 Like the one in the last photo. Most I have seen are bare aluminum though, not the crackle black. I have seen a few on EBay over the years, they went for more than I was willing to pay…I’m cheap. I have a bunch of Kirsten’s, although I keep my eye out for the ones that stand on a foot…I don’t have one of that style yet. I have one that has the Cavalier shape/layout, it just has a normal Kirsten cap rather than the foot, so it won’t stand.
I have seen Mummert’s pipes on SPC, they are NOT inexpensive🙂
I have looked at nearly every pipe on SPC for the last ~8 years, and nearly every pipe on EBay for the same amount of time. I have probably seen over 2 million pipes when I do the math. SPC usually has at least few hundred newly listed pipes every week, EBay probably 500-1000 a day?
@motie2 I don’t get the “reverse calabash” name either, whomever decided on it must have needed a name to “set them apart” from a true gourd calabash, for the “new”, “coolness” factor. I guess “Pipe with separate expansion chamber” was too verbose. The Peterson System Pipes are mini “reverse calabashes” with the added tweak of a condenser/distiller? Reverse Calabashes, Gourd Calabashes, Peterson System Pipes, are going for the same “end game” as your E.A. Carey’s and the Papyrate “filter” (without the Papyrate “filter”) removing the water from the smoke stream, for a drier smoke.

They come in email ads. I’m on every pipe smoking email list I’ve been able to find since about 2016.
😳
😳
Not sure which you mean. I'll hunt for you. (I've had luck finding pipes for other members.)

Hey, just what are those two cobs doing😳
Whatever, it’s a pretty nice design, even if I’m not sure what a “reverse calabash” is……
