I only smoke on occasion. Being in a non-smoking house and living where I do in Texas makes it hard to smoke on a regular basis. The Texas comment for those that aren't familiar with Texas is that it is usually to hot and windy to get a good smoke outside and when the weather is just perfect the mosquitoes are so think you might be anemic before you get your pipe lit or there is ice hanging from everything. The occasions I smoke are camping, when driving long distances (usually to go camping), or those mornings I get up way to early and get outside before I fry.
I'm lucky enough to have a screened/windowed porch to sit out in when weather/ infamous Jersey Mosquitos make it rough to be outside. I have to bundle up in winter out there.
I smoke more in the summer and not so much once the weather gets colder. The summers in PA are perfect to be outside all day and night...the winters, not so much.
Occasional pipe smoker. Occasional smoker in general. I always have been more of a pipe guy as opposed to a tobacco guy. But recently I finally started diving into Virginia tobaccos instead of aromatics and that has made the taste and comfort of the hobby far more enjoyable. Since turning from the aromatics the tongue bite has practically vanished.
Pretty much a daily smokers though during the summer months in SE Louisiana I could be called a nightly smoker. I do most of my smoking outside under the shade of an oak tree with a soft breeze blowing.
I smoke a pipe daily, and since retiring a few years ago have considerably more time to do so. Mostly outdoors during the spring, summer, and fall. The whole operation comes indoors for the New England winter, but neither the wife nor the dogs seem to mind.
I smoke daily but the hot weather this summer in Mississippi has been a challenge since I don't smoke inside. I want to get a screened and windowed gazebo or porch that I can heat and cool. Now, I have to either get out right after sunrise or just before sunset, and even then I use a small innobay rechargeable fan. In winter I bundle up and get out at the same times since I participate in a FeederWatch program and early morning and late evening are good times to observe bird activity.
@JoeHandyMan - Tell me more about the FeederWatch program. We have three feeders in the backyard and a wide variety of birds. I have enough doves to make a dove hunter envious, bluejays, cardinals, mockingbirds, red-headed woodpeckers and even a robin occasionally. We also get a lot of different small birds. I even have ad a hawk land on my fence.
@PappyJoe, FeederWatch is sponsored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Briefly, from November through April participants watch their feeders two consecutive days each week and report the number of birds observed. The data from thousands of people worldwide is compiled, analyzed and reported back. There is a small fee to help defer costs. More information is available at www.feederwatch.org.
I typically smoke during the morning commute, that definitely makes it more enjoyable. I too live in a non-smoking house, so I turn into an occasional smoker on the weekends. Northern California mornings and evenings are generally pretty cooperative 9 months out of the year for patio smoking. In a pinch I'll move to the garage with minimal complaint.
Maybe a couple of times during the work week for me If I can fit it in between work and Boy Scouts with my sons. On the weekends It's a morning, noon and evening relax fest of piping goodness.
It varies... I get my day to day smoking urges, then I kind of quit for a little time. I found myself chewing red man here on lately again for those days when it just is easier or not convenient to smoke.
Varies according to work, if I'm worn out,I just want a quick dinner and bed.But usually I get a smoke every afternoon at least some times if I know I can get away with it I take a couple pipes with me and sneek a smoke at work.
I try to smoke a pipe at least once a day, maybe two if time permits , but it doesn't always work out, I can smoke in my apartment because they don't really enforce it but I live across the street from my smokeshop so I can go there anytime, and I can definitely go outside to smoke.
