@Corey562 Ok, just finished the BC. I'm going to have to do a salt & alcohol treatment on this one. Has a little ghost, but not enough that one treatment should be able to take care of the problem. I'll start it in the morning and let it sit for 2 days. That'll do it...
@Corey562 Well surprise surprise! I hope yours is as good a smoker as mine. I think it's also a great looking pipe, unique as well with the iridescent shank extender. Sometimes I think we need to live next door (or at least close) to each other. The problem would be my wife would probably rarely see me...
@Corey562 I don't try to fight sleepless nights either. I'll head off to my pipe room and sand and polish projects until my chin touches my chest. Then head back to bed and sleep like a baby...
@Corey562 I have 2 pipes I just completed refurbishing. Right now I'm waiting on the wife at Wal-Mart, so I'll send a pic later... I'm running out of pipes to work on. I need to hit another estate sale but I haven't been able to find one yet that has pipes. I do have a few pipes that I wasn't really happy how they turned out. I'll redo those pipes to give them a better look... At this point, it's that or it's going to be a long winter...
@Corey562 Here's the pics of a Hilson Viva 201 I refurbed. The stem was the work. It didn't fit properly and had accessible oxidation. Anyway, it turned out to be a nice little pipe... Smokes good too...
@Corey562 Here's the two I recently refurbed. The OomPaul was done last week and already smoked, The Bjorne freehand I have yet to fire up... Anyway, a couple of before and afters just to give you an idea...
Thanks @Woodsman@Corey562 I'm starting a real challenge for me. A mismatched stummel and stem. The stummel is in bad shape but I think I can bring it back to life. I am going to have to trim the shank and try to get a smooth blend with the stem.
Ok... Took the stummel out of the alcohol bath, trimmed down the tenon to a good tight fit, then gave the stummel a preliminary sanding. These pics show how much of the shank I'm going to have to reduce. Since no belt sander, I'll be doing it by hand...
@Corey562 Just about have the shank where I want it. 3 or 4 more stages of finer and finer sanding and it should have a smooth transition to the stem...
