God bless your Son for stepping up to defend our country. And God less you for raising that son. I was (and to a large degree still am) Navy, many, many years ago.
@randelli -- May the Lord be with him in his going out and his coming back.
May the God who blessed our ancestors, bless the armed forces of the United States of America. May God protect them and save them from all trouble and anguish, from injury and illness. May God send blessing through the work of their hands. My the words of the prophet be established through them: "And He shall judge between many peoples, and shall decide concerning mighty nations afar off. And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."
@randelli - There is not very much free time in boot camp. After a long day of training, boots, brass, study, and rifle maintenance take up a large amount of time and MUST be accomplished. NO EXCEPTIONS. However, recruits are encourage to write home and are allotted time to do so. Your boy left for boot-camp in October and in January, a man will return. Semper Fi
I come from a long line of soldiers, sailors, teachers, and priests. I went the priest route. I pray for the day when we will not need to send our young men and women into combat. Until then, I want our troops to be the best trained and equipped in the world. May he be safe. May he keep his empathy and compassion. May he always strive to work for peace on earth. May he never be put in harms way, but if he is, may he do his duty with humility and courage.
So we got another letter! He is doing well and is still, as of Dec 5 at least, a squad leader. He would like to be the guide so he can wear his dress uniform at graduation; but I am happy that he has maintained his leadership position.
He earned his expert badge on the rifle range with a score of 96/100 which is good because we didn't do much long gun shooting when he was younger - probably didn't have to correct bad habits haha!
