In the 44 years Ive been smoking a pipe , I didnt have a " cellar " till pretty recently . I guess 10 years ago or so Id buy some extra . These days I have a good bit put up . My " cellar " , which is a large cabinet in the kitchen , was way too clustered so I put the OTC Tubs and all the tins into a big box and put that in a closet , which just left the jarred stuff . The jarred stuff is a majority vintage stuff , anywhere from the 1920s till pre bar code . My go to blends are jarred and a few others
I really couldnt tell you how much . weight wise , or how many varieties I have . I basically just reach for my go to stuff and when Im in the mood for something special Ill look through the jars of vintage stuff  ... oh , and Brittish OTC stuff ... thats jarred too .

Now that I typed that ^^ ... Im jonesing for some Redcoat Walnut Flake

That's close to what I've done. I started smoking a pipe in 1972 and usually only bought one pouch of tobacco or a couple of ounces of a bulk blend at a time. I'd smoke that and just buy more when I started to run out. I also only had one or two pipes at a time.
Then I went through a time where I was smoking mostly cigars and only occasionally picking up a pipe. That flipped around in 2013 and I went back to smoking a pipe daily and cigars occasionally. I "blame" one of my sons. He found some old pipes at a junktique shop and bought them. He gave me a couple of them.
That's also when I found out about the existence of a "pipe smoking" community.

I now have approximately 12 pounds of pipe tobacco and 70 pipes in my office space. I blame it on my late wife preferring me smoking a pipe than a "stinking cigar". (She was supportive of my pipe smoking and bought me my first meerschaum for Christmas in 1984.)
