I saw a hat on a character in the movie “Corsicana” about the US Marshall Bass Reeves. Does anyone know where I might get a hat like it? No really, not kidding. I have a big head, I need a big hat. I’m not sure if it’s a “Cowboy Hat” or a “Sombrero”….maybe both? I love the two tone weave and mottling. I can make a leather band. Sweet lid👍🏻
@RockyMountainBriar There's a place in San Antonio called Market Square (or Mexican Market Square?). It's a lot of small stores, shops and restaurants. Anyway, they had a lot of different wide brimmed hats similar to the one you pictured. Don't know if they have websites, but you can Google it and see what happens. Best I can do for you brother...
@RockyMountainBriar "I was thinking about the pine, tongue and groove wall covering and the newspaper😬"
I was stationed on the coast of Washington state from 1974 - 75 at a Long Range Aids-to-Navigation station consisting of three buildings built during WWII - Garage, Transmitter/Receiving building and Office/Living Quarters. While there, the Chief decided we needed to renovate the living quarters and we started by removing the sheetrock. Both he and the Group Office were surprised to find that the original walls were tongue and groove cedar boards.
The station was decommissioned five years later and from what I heard all the tongue and groove cedar was removed from the building and "sold" for a large donation to the morale fund.
Hmm, pipes and model trains….My dad, grandpa, a couple of uncles, and a cousin, were/are railroaders and a friend of 54 years is an engineer. Dad bought a few “sets” of old Lionel’s at the pawnshop that we played with as children. I have a small collection of HO-Scale loco’s and rolling stock. My brother had a 4’x8’ diorama when we were in Grade-School & Junior High that we ran our trains on. Later when I was older I started collecting N-Scale (N-Scale still has decent detail and take up a lot less room). I still have a 4’x4’ diorama that I can run them on, but it has been in storage in mom’s basement for many years. I have a new 10’x20’ barn roof shed coming Monday…I made the diorama so it can be lowered and raised on chains…..I am planning on hanging it in the center portion of the new shed, spiffing it up and running it again. Yes, I have a decent collection of N-Scale. My buddy the engineer has been collecting N-Scale as well. He has a much, much, larger collection.
@RockyMountainBriar and @motie2 my son does N guage, my eyes aren't good enough for that anymore. I have a few lionel 0 guage trains I take out around christmas.
He may have been a complete fake depending on what you believe, but every picture of Mitchell Hedges shows him smoking a pipe. He is the guy who allegedly found the crystal skull.
@Londy3 I found a replacement for my 40 year old Resistol. It doesn’t have the wide, wide brim I was looking for, but it is just a tad wider than the Resistol. It was all crimped up on the sides, I steamed it and flattened it out a bit. I need to flatten it even more. Over-rolled edges are for poser rhinestone cowboys. The brim is there to keep the sun off, if they are rolled way up, you might as well wear a stocking cap in July.

This, by the same author, was published in 1956
Was a Lionel guy, years ago. Still have a couple of books. Recognized the author….

Looks like your second pic of him, but sans pipe.
Soooo, did you find a hat? 🤠
