Though they are really pretty wet, I really like the East India Trading Co's "Cellar's Reserve" and "Officer's Club"...they are both flavored with rum. But to be fair I just love rum anything generally. Funny enough I like 2 blends that I *believe* don't have any in them but taste like they do: Russ' Monthly "Thumbprint Cookie" (tastes like a rum or whiskey), and Newminster's "No. 400 Superior Navy Flake" (tastes like rum is in it but none is listed). My wife has really taken to the Out Of Office blend "Few Too Many" which has a really distinct whiskey flavor to it. It's pretty good.
I will throw this into this category even though its not exactly an aromatics, in sense its not cased, Frog Morton's Cellar is my favorite. When I'm in the mood PS's Sambuca. I haven't smoked a rum tobacco in a long time though. I think I'll have to break one out of the can in the next month.
@pappyjoe Apparently I am going to have to spend my vacation experimenting with flakes. Every one keeps mentioning them and I have never had luck with them, I only tried a handful of times over the years.
@drac2485 - I find it helps to let them dry out a little first. I like to take a flake or two out and let them set for 15 or 20 minutes. Mostly I rub the flake out but lately I've had good luck with rolling it up.
@pappyjoe Thanks. I actually pulled out a few jars of flake last night and am rehydrating them. I opened the tins when I first started smoking and didn't know better so I just put the lid back on and left them for a few.... *COUGH COUGH COUGH* years... Surprisingly when I jarred them a while back they weren't too bad and even still have a good smell to them but they just break apart to easy right now to try and smoke them.
@drac2485 - I try some before rehydrating. If they break apart that easy, just rub some out and give it a try. Make that "rub some of the tobacco flakes out."
@pappyjoe I'll go home tonight and see where they are at. I thinking the same thing but unfortunately I think they may a little to crisp right now for that. There is absolutely no flexibility to them, they break like bark.
@drac2485 I have read discussions about crispy tobaccos on other forums. The consensus seems to be that some tobaccos are actually better when they get that dried. I wouldn't know on a personal level because I haven't had any get to a mummified state yet.
@pappyjoe I'll definitely experiment with it when I get home. I might keep rehydrating my Capstan Blue and let my Orlick dry back out since I have another tin of that
@pipeprofessor is Barbados Plantation just a straight rum? I tied Country Squire's Treasure Island....perfect straight rum, but I kinda think a rum tobacco needs to have an accompanying flavor with it to really nail it.
I'll toss my two cents in as well when it comes to the East India Trading Company blends - Officer's Club, Cellar Reserve, and Royal Challenge. Also a fan of Barbados Plantation and two bulk blends from Sutliff ... Sunset Rum and Rum and Maple.
