Need some help in rehumidifying tobacco that has gotten to dry, please!

I have some Mac Barren tobacco that, due to my being hospitalized & then going thru rehab has dried out! I thought that I saw some posts on here somewhere that looked very interesting, but I cannot find them now! Your guidance and help would be greatly appreciated!

@Tuxedo007 if you use the search box at the top of the page( not easy to find) you should find it. I tried re-humidifying some Pelican two weeks ago and had limited success.

One method for a tin or so is to wet a piece of paper towel cut to fit on top of the tobacco in it's container, cover and check next day, repeat if necessary. Use the purest water you have.

Tuxedo, I just put my tobacco in a small Tupperware style container, and spray the underside of the lid with distilled water. Usually within 24 hours, the tobacco will have drawn the water completely from the underside of the lid. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Place your opened tin of tobacco in the bottom of a large dish (I use a square Pyrex dish). Then take a smaller dish (like dipping sauce size, or something similar) and fill with hot water and place it in the bottom of the large dish. Cover the large dish with plastic wrap and let it sit overnight. The hot water humidifies the air under the plastic wrap. The dry tobacco in the tin absorbs the humidity. The next morning, re-hydrated tobacco.

I tried the apple slice inside of the bag and let sit for a couple of days,worked well,haven't tried the orange peel yet.

I remember someone once telling me that a potato slice would do the same thing as an apple slice, but "without changing the taste like the apple would."

I used to put a thin slice of Apple in my tobacco pouch to keep the tobacco moist. Many say the Apple will mildew/mold but I never had that happen. When the pouch was empty I'd throw the slice out

I have used orange peel and it doesn't really change the flavor of the tobacco. I've tried the apple and didn't like the results and would never try a slice of potato. Cut a potato and set it on a counter. In 5 or 6 minutes it will start turning black. For that matter an apple will start turning brown also.

Don't use orange pell.... leads to mold; use orange zest only.

@motie2 - I've never had the problem with mold while using an orange peel. I also don't leave the peel in for more than a day or two though.

Your entry forced me to go back and reread these posts.
@xDutchx used the same method I still use today...
To add to this technique, instead of confining it to a Tupperware container, I sometimes just fine mist the underside of the lid of my mason jar(s) with distilled water and place them back on the shelf. Then I check on them in 1 or 2 days. If I find them still wanting, I repeat... works for me...

Mason jar. Fill with dried tobacco. Put moistened (not sopping) clean paper towel in jar with tobacco. Screw lid tight. Put in sun for a couple of hours. Remove paper towel. Voila!

Listen to @PappyJoe ………. but there ain’t no rhyme for orange, other than the archaic “sporange,” a botanical term.

Other words that have no rhyme include: silver, purple, month, ninth, pint, wolf, opus, dangerous, marathon and discombobulate.
