Sleepy Hollow starts the Autumn season every year at my house. Peretti Thanksgiving day rides right along with it through Christmas. Both are staples for the season for me.
I tend to move more towards Latakia blends when the weather starts getting cooler and easing into to aros as the holidays approach. I have an order of Senior Chief coming from The Country Squire and two jars of Peach Cobbler b
@judandhispipe - there is something great about a good latakia blend while sitting around a fire with a cup of coffee. I think I have a couple of blends with red virginias in them but I couldn't name them off the top of my head. I'll have to find them.
My fave red Virginia blends,@PappyJoe, are McCranie's Red Ribbon and Ben Hartwell Signature - I've been smoking those for years, and, at this point, only smoke tins that I've had at least 5 years. I've recently discovered the red Virginia in the new Mind Meld series - I enjoy that one, too. McClelland's Christmas Cheer series have some reds,IIRC, as does Hal o' th' Wynd. All good smokes.
I've only sampled sleepy hollow once, it was good. I also tend towards maple tobaccos, and I have some sutliff pumpkin spice that I mix with various other tobaccos.
I can't say I have a Fall blend,or a winter spring or summer blend at that. I have about 3 lbs of samples,1-2 oz each, anout 3.4 lb of CB (w) and around 150 assorted cigars that I grab a pouch and load a pipe and enjoy. If for some reason I don't have time for a pipe I grab a cigar.
Here in Arkansas we tend to have wet, slushy/rainy winters. It just doesn't get cool enough to really take the moisture out of the air. The moisture and constant fluctuations in temperature is more of a disaster for maintaining cob pipes than anything (they don't like quick fluctuations in temp/humidity). I really have to watch the moisture, so I tend to enjoy drier blends and leave my cakes and flakes in favor of ribbon cuts.
@jondavidcole I thought of you when I read this thread. I used to live in Stark Vegas - "The City of Lights!" I remember we used to joke with people that we had all four seasons in Mississippi:
I managed to get my hands on a few ounces of Sleepy Hallow, I'm holding off until October to try it. Other than that I really don't have a 'fall blend', unless you count Dunhill 965 or Peterson's Irish Flake
@tomatobodhi, the Willamette Valley here in Oregon is near the same. There are exceptions but for the most part we only have two seasons; Winter and August.
My preference once the cooler weather shows up is an English or Balkan blend.
My son just gave me a tin of a Tsuge aromatic called "The Mystery of Autumn". It's a ribbon cut, Black Cavendish Virginia. Unless I have some kind of tobacco emergency, my plan is to save it for the coming October.
@drac2485. I have some from 2014 and it was great. Then I stuck it back in my cellar ever since. I want to break it out this fall, but I will probably order bulk and smoke some of that and let the 2014 continue to age.
Starting tonight, my 2 main October blends will be Samuel Gawith Scottish Autumn Flake and Sleepy Hollow. Just an FYI, I called Straus today to see if Sleepy Hollow will go on sale soon. They told me that it should be ready in ~ 2-3 weeks but they are taking pre-orders now. I pre-ordered another 8oz ;-)
My own Black Cavendish, Latakia and Madiera, Fall always brings nostalgia in me. Old King Cole is long gone so that's the closest I can come to me. It's pretty close.
@suppressedRage Sleepy hollow is an aro through and through, but a very well done aro. It's burley, black cavendish and virginia cased with pumpkin spice and caramel/vanilla from what i can tell. The only way to order it is by calling Strauss and placing an order over the phone. Its worth the call for sure

One of my favorite fall blends is C&D's Autumn Evening
