Favorite Blends Released Before 2007

With the new FDA regulations I wanted to start a topic for the newer pipe smokers, like myself. I've been smoking a pipe for about a year.

Most of the blends I have tried/smoke consistently were released after 2007. So, needless to say, I need some suggestions for tobaccos with release dates before 2007. I truly enjoy all types, and for the sake of other newbies, would love suggestions for every type.

There's tons of them. Much of my rotation falls into this category. Without knowing more about your tastes, @pappybadger, it's hard to make suggestions.

My personal tastes are aromatics and heavy Latakia.

But for the sake of other newer pipe smokers, could you also name some of your personal favorite ones? I'm hoping this possible benefit anyone newer to the pipe not just myself.

@PappyBadger I just realized I haven't been smoking a pipe long enough to know very many blends that actually were in production prior to 2007 besides some of the older blend made by Dunhill. I think the CAO blends Like Moontrance and the other NOT BLACK were pre-2007 as those were the first blends I smoked. Davidoff and Ashton I don't think have added any new blends in a long time.

Many Peterson blends are that old - Old Dublin is a personal fave. Sam Gawith - Best Brown Flake, Balkan Flake, Navy Flake. Rattray - Old Gowrie and Hal o' th' Wynd are my faves. Tons of McClelland and C&D blends count. Dunhill stopped selling here for a few years, and then came back - don't know
how that will play out. MacBaren has a bunch of older blends - Mixture and Golden Extra are regulars for me. Check a review site like TobaccoReviews.com and look for blends with reviews before that time.

@judandhispipe I looked at tobacco reviews and found one tobacco that has me very disappointed. I couldn't find reviews of frog morton's cellar prior to 2012... This will make me sad if it goes away

Cellar is pretty recent, @drac2485. Perhaps grab yourself a few extra tins.
I forgot to mention,before,Peterson's Sherlock Holmes,along with Old Dublin, as an older blend I enjoy.
I'm not at all happy about this whole brouhaha, but there will be blends to smoke - and unless you are someone like Steve Fallon, aka Pipestud, there will be lots that you haven't tried.

As someone else said in another post, anything currently on market has two years before they may disappear. So some companies may stop producing them but we can always hope.

LoL, 2007 seems like yesterday and don't think I have anything that wasn't made after that. If I do it's just a tin hear and there.

I guess as an aromatic smoker I'd probably be forced to go back to the Captain Black blends. Most of the newer aromatic blends I'm smoking now were manufactured after 2007. So I'd be back with the Captain. But with the current size of my cellar I don't think I'll have to worry about running out of tobacco anytime soon. At 67, I'll probably die before then anyway.

@PappyJoe So many of us on the site make reference to the fact that our wives don't let us smoke in the house. So I imagine quite a few of them will be piling up our prized cellar into a heaping clump of tobacco, dousing it in gasoline and putting a match to it shouting ... "Good riddance?" after we're gone.

@motie2 THAT'S IT!!! Those are the only pre-2007 blends Sutliff have? Oh Sweet Jesus ... where's my wallet.

That's pretty pathetic. There's not a single blend listed that I'd buy. The only one I've really tried was Mixture 79 and you know my opinion on that one.
