@motie2 Back when I worked in the Steel Mill as a Millwright we used rope Graphite Packing, which looks exactly like the tobacco listed above, to pack large water pumps.

I have some of that graphite packing rope in my plumbing kit for old faucets, although it is of a much smaller diameter.   Messy stuff.  The rope tobacco is not nearly as messy🙂

I've seen piles similar to that in the open fields at my Grandad's farm every evening when leading the cows back to the barn for the night...😏
