@Phillip Hope that's temporary. When Thompson Tobaccos seemed to focus on cigars and put pipe tobacco far in the background I quit visiting their site and receiving their catalogs. They once had a nice selection of Thompson house blends ... but not anymore. Two of my favorites were "Magic Flute" and "Piped Piper" ... neither show up on their catalog. So screw em'.
You have no idea how much I dig down on some of this stuff. I've contacted Pipes & Cigars to find out some stuff both related to the catalog and some other stuff. Also on curiosity I wanted to see the latest copy of Cigar International (same company as P&C) which I used to get but no longer do. I can't remember if they featured very much pipe tobacco and wanted to see.
A report of the tobacco business is available but must be purchased so I took a pass, but I think there is some restructuring going on. For instance just today the John Middleton plant in PA announced it's shutting their doors. They make a lot of the cheaper cigars like Black & Mild but they also make some pipe tobacco blends like Carter Hall and Prince Albert. Those blends are not going away but it seems like the production forecast is not sunny.
Things are shaking out and we'll just have to hope in the end it's profitable for companies to continue manufacturing and selling the blends we love.
