How many pipe smokers on here were hats? 

I almost said excluding ball caps but we'll include them in the conversation also. After spending 21 years in the military, you get used to wearing a cover (what we called hats) outdoors to the point where you almost feel undressed if you don't have one. Even though I retired in 1993, I still put one on when I leave the house.

I have a couple of ball caps for usual daily wear but I have several others including:

A dark gray Fedora for wear with a suit during the fall and winter.

A white straw Panama for the spring though summer months. Will wear this with a coat & tie, business casual or with jeans.

A two tone brown sea grass hat for summer casual (shorts, sandals and tank top)

Joe, I collect baseball caps that I have accumulated from cigar events that I have attended, but I rarely wear them. I keep my head shaved, and tend to wear a doo rag when riding my bike, or a watch cap in the colder months.

I have been told that God only made a few perfect heads, and the rest he covered in hair. Sometimes though, I feel the need to get some protection from the rain, sun, and wind.

I still have my hair so I don't wear a hat. Although I'd wouldn't mind an Indiana Jones hat to wear when I go to outdoor Fall Festivals.

I always wear hats, even as a kid. Even though I have my hair, I feel lost without a hat. I keep a cap in my car all the time to keep the sun out of my eyes.

Flatcaps are my favorite, and I always wear one when I smoke my pipe. It just feels like a natural combination.

Felt in the winter, straw in the summer. Nothing beats a good Boater when down at the Yacht Club.

Usually a ball-type cap. I tend to stay away from caps with sports logos. Everyone here in Maine seems to wear Boston sports teams and my loyalties lie elsewhere. My current favorite has a logo from a local coffee roaster. In the winter I'll wear a flat cap. I'm getting pretty thin on top, so I like to have some protection.

Always wear some type of head cover year around, winter it is usually a wool watch type hat or tam. Spring and fall, usually a brimmed hat such as a boonie or felt brimmed hat. Summer, a straw hat for coolness and most importantly, sun protection.

when driving or outside I ever use a ball-cap. I have a small collection of their, basic with cigars brand logo.

I have a head like an NBA basketball. I have walked into one of those "LIDS" stores in the Mall (all they sell is baseball caps with various team names and logos) and told the salesclerk that I'd buy every cap in the store that fit. I have yet to come home with a cap. "If it's not a knit, it just won't fit."

I do have a killer Tottenham Hotspurs knit cap.

I wear ball caps a lot, to protect my noggin in the summer,and warmth in the winter. I do wear other hats when the occasion requires.

I've got my Irish tweed cap that I wear in the Winter months on occasion, however, I usually can be seen wearing one of the 13-odd Red Sox caps or 3-4 UConn hats that I pull from the stacks on the shelf in my closet.

I got my Father's Day present early this year but it wasn't a pipe. I haven't paid more that $20 for the hats I wear these days and the wife decided she wanted me to have something other than a new pipe this year. We went to Gorrin Brothers in New Orleans and I picked out this "Made in America" hat which is their version of a Panama.

I'm a ballcap guy unless I'm watching trains when I might have somesort of sunhat/rainhat on.

Hi all , I too have a full head of hair, but I have always loved hats. goes back to when I was a kid and all the Uncles wore them. I like lost mason. have a York rite Chapeau, as well as my Shriners Fez, and my Topper from when I was Master of my Lodge. I Have 2 black Resistols rancher crease and a Resistol straw for summer. As I live in the Chicago area and work in Finance I still dress business formal everyday, so when the weather turns chilly as we say around here. I turn to my 4 fedora's black, maple, navy, and dark green, they are the best, from a great local company Optimo hats in Chicago. They know how to fit you to a tea, size and shape, all still hand made here on the south side of Chicago. I have many times tried caps they hardly ever fit and even if they do, because I have a large head they make me look like a cone head.

I wear a hat almost always mostly a J.Hanly&Co. Lid. Wool hand woven  in Ireland. A gift from a smoking buddy.

The more hair I lose the more I tend to wear a cap... for both protection and (if I'm honest) vanity. I'd love to get some nice classy hats. I have a few flat caps that I wear from time to time (especially in the winter). I've  always thought that a fedora definitely makes a statement. I must get one.

@Corey562 Very nice hat! When I was in Dublin in 2014, I picked up two wool flat caps and wear them all the time in the cooler months.
